The cap amount for next season depends on the maximum 5 percent inflator the NHL Players’ could trigger after negotiations with the league to up the cap number.
The $84 million figure is with a zero percent inflator; $88.2 million projection would comprise the full 5 percent. Last season the NHLPA triggered a 1% inflator to get the cap to $81.5 million.
