Kyle Boone of CBS Sports released his latest NBA mock draft and has the Cleveland Cavaliers selecting Anthony Edwards second overall.
If the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to try and make things work with their current roster, they should explore drafting a shooting guard in the next NBA Draft. A potential fit? Georgia’s Anthony Edwards.
CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone has the Cavs taking the talented guard second overall in his latest mock draft.
“The combination of shot-creation and athleticism for Edwards makes him a special prospect in this class. He should be a big-time scorer at the NBA level and has defensive upside when he puts forth the effort. He’d be a great fit in Cleveland capable of playing alongside Collin Sexton and/or Darius Garland, giving the Cavs another initiator to build around as a franchise cornerstone.”

Boone mentions both Collin Sexton and Darius Garland in his reasoning for the Edwards pick. Cleveland spent 1st Round picks on both the past two drafts and should find a way to make them work in one way or another. Splitting the two up is an interesting scenario. If the Cavs are looking for Edwards as a primary scoring option, Garland may be the better fit. If Cleveland wants him to be a complicity piece, Sexton could be the better option. Of cours,e they could go with a supersmall-balll lineup and play all three. Although that seems to be the least likely of the three options at this point in time.
The Cavaliers just need to determine who the most talented player is in their eyes and take him. Worrying about positional fit is not worth it at this moment in time. To be blunt, Cleveland needs talent. They are so far away from competing right now that they need to take the most talented player and figure the rest out later. Having too much talent is not a bad problem to have.
