Name: Patrick Queen
Weight: 229 pounds
Patrick Queen is a very fluid and explosive athlete. He consistently displayed an explosive first step when attacking downhill. Queen has impressive hip fluidity, allowing him to excel in coverage by sticking closer to running backs or tight ends through their route breaks. Furthermore, his lower body strength makes him an explosive tackler. Queen is a true sideline-to-sideline playmaker with excellent foot speed and redirection ability. His plus length helps him shed blocks effectively. Couple that with his agility and Queen is usually in a position that allows him to make plays on the ballcarrier.
Queen has impressive instincts in the run game. In his time at LSU, he was consistently the first to the football as a rally defender. Queen doesn’t have exceptional strength to stop blockers in their tracks. However, his phenomenal agility and hand timing help to keep him clean from getting locked in with a blocker. His tackling is consistently fundamentally sound and he rarely lets a runner slip through his grasp. Furthermore, Queen presents phenomenal effort and range. Most noticeably, that shows up on film when he comes from out of the frame to make a play most players would’ve given up on making.

His understanding of routes and where he needs to be on the field are extremely impressive. Queen has developed far beyond his years in terms of his pass coverage instincts. His flexibility and quick feet combined with his instincts prevent him from being out of position in coverage. Also, his football IQ is sensational, routinely anticipating the direction of a play before his teammates and often arriving to the point of attack before blockers do. Queen played several different roles in his time at LSU, which will allow him to be a true 3-down defender at the NFL level.
