With the third overall selection in the 2020 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions have selected Jeffrey Okudah, a cornerback out of Ohio State. Okudah will be tasked with replacing Darius Slay, who Bob Quinn and company shipped to Philadelphia earlier this offseason.
The consensus number one cornerback in the draft this year, scouts have been hard pressed to find any true weakness in Okudah’s game. It’s very possible that Okudah will be one of the best corners in the game as soon as he steps foot on Ford Field later this year.

Okudah excels primarily in man coverage, though he is by no means a bad defender in zone specific schemes. He also has the ball skills and acceleration of some of the league’s best wide receivers. Okudah will line up next to former Falcons CB Desmond Trufant for Matt Patricia’s defense next year, as the Lions look to improve upon their 3-12-1 campaign from 2019.
