With the 59th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select…
Name: Denzel Mims
Position: Wide Receiver
The breakdown of Mims can be found here:
Where do they go from here?
The Jets could still use help for holes on the interior offensive line, an edge rusher, corner, and another receiver. They picked up an extra third-round pick, and that gives Joe Douglas some flexibility to go out and get a backup running back as well.
Great work so far
Some savvy work by Douglas has allowed him to get a position of need, and some say a player who they targeted all along and an extra pick. With Mekhi Bacton and Mims, Douglas has done some good work and is showing why the Jets hired him. Let’s see where they go in round three, and don’t rule out another trade down. That being said, the Jets are in a good position with the players that they have drafted so far in 2020.
Joe Douglas clearly has a plan, and time will tell if it works, but he’s on the right path so far. Now there’s one question that remains.
As this draft unfolds, the fewer and fewer excuses will be permitted for Adam Gase. He’s been to the playoffs, and — at least on offense — this Jets roster is starting to mirror the look of the 2015 Miami Dolphins, and that team went to the playoffs.
