With the 109th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders have selected John Simpson, an offensive guard out of Clemson. The eighth player from the Clemson-Alabama National Championship game to now be rostered by Las Vegas, Simpson will slot in behind Richie Incognito and Gabe Jackson as a backup guard.
Simpson is a big boy. Standing 6’5″ and weighing 330 pounds, Simpson plays every bit of it, making himself a very good run blocker on the interior. He isn’t fantastic moving laterally, which could create some issues in trap schemes. He is, however, fantastic climbing to the second level and sealing out linebackers.

He’s not going to challenge for the starting job his rookie year, but Simpson is a high floor selection in the fourth round, and is very good depth filler for a Las Vegas team that needs talent wherever they can get it.
