The Wrestling Roundup is here to bring you all the news and rumors you need to know in one place.

WWE SmackDown Results

  • Sheamus wins a battle royal to get a spot in the Intercontinental Championship tournament semi finals
  • Lacey Evans vs Sonya Deville ends in a countout draw
  • Sasha Banks def. Alexa Bliss
  • Chad Gable def. Cesaro
  • Daniel Bryan def. Sheamus to advance in the Intercontinental Championship tournament

The show started with an absolutely wild scene. Elias had been hit in a hit and run, and it appeared to be Jeff Hardy who hit him. Braun Strowman was a witness, and Hardy was taken away by police officers. This is a segment that hit a little close to home with Hardy’s history, and it framed the rest of the show.

The chaos of the opener led to some matches on the card. A.J. Styles was more than happy to get a bye into the semi finals. A ten-man battle royale was scheduled to give Daniel Bryan an opponent that he requested. Sheamus won the match, setting up our main event. Jeff Hardy distracted Sheamus, leading to a Bryan win. Something tells me Sheamus is not innocent in what kicked off the show.

Bro! Matt Riddle is coming to SmackDown. Kurt Angle, who refereed Riddle’s Fight Pit match on Wednesday, made the announcement during tonight’s show. Riddle will make a great addition to the SmackDown roster. Let the fantasy bookings begin. Matches against Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, A.J. Styles, and Ali await us.

There was a tag team champion summit between the New Day and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. It was all to set up a Bliss/Cross vs Sasha Banks & Bayley tag title match for next week that may steal the show.

Samoa Joe On Raw Commentary Permanently?

The Raw commentary team may have a new permanent third man. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Samoa Joe is now considered the permanent replacement for Jerry Lawler (h/t WrestlingInc). Joe has been out of wrestling action since suffering a concussion in February. It is unclear if Joe would return to wrestling once he is medically cleared, but for now he will remain the third man on the Raw broadcast team.

Nigel McGuinness Among WWE Furloughs

Another name has emerged from WWE’s rounds of furloughs. Wrestling Observer reports that Nigel McGuinness was among the furloughs that WWE conducted in April (h/t CagesideSeats). McGuinness has been absent from the NXT and NXT UK booths, which is explained by this. Here’s hoping he either returns to WWE soon or finds more announcing opportunities. He provides some of the best analysis of any color commentator in the business.

Another NXT Star Moving to Raw or SmackDown?

Matt Riddle’s move to SmackDown has been reported for the past week, and was confirmed on Friday. Another NXT star may be joining him. According to a report from WrestleTalk, Dominik Dijakovic will also be moving to Mondays or Fridays. Dijakovic has wrestled in NXT since late 2018, and would be a great addition to either show’s roster.
