WWE Raw Results

We are just a week away from Backlash, the latest WWE pay-per-view of the empty arena era. How would WWE fill the go-home Raw? Christian appeared and tried to talk sense into Edge before his match with Randy Orton. What else went down? Here are the full results:

  • Asuka & Charlotte Flair def. IIconics and Bayley & Sasha Banks in a triple threat tag team match
  • Aleister Black & Humberto Carrillo def. Austin Theory & Buddy Murphy
  • Andrade def. Kevin Owens & Angel Garza in a United States Championship #1 Contenders match
  • MVP & Bobby Lashley def. Viking Raiders
  • Charlotte Flair def. Asuka

WWE Raw Takeaways

Christian was just trying to be a good friend to Edge. The Peep Show returned and had Edge as a guest, and Christian told Edge he wouldn’t have the “Greatest Match Ever”. He said Edge is running on fumes, and wouldn’t be able to live up to the hype. It turned out to all be a motivation tactic for Christian to pump Edge up, but it worked on me and on him. Their match won’t be the best match in history, but it still should be a damn good contest. Orton had a rebuttal promo that was also excellent, but seek out the Peep Show to see one of the best parts of Raw.

Seth Rollins continues to taunt Rey Mysterio. Rollins invited Mysterio and his son Dominick to Raw next week as Mysterio heals his eye. Mysterio is still furious, but Rollins used Mysterio to get a one-up on Aleister Black tonight. The Monday Night Messiah appeared in a Mysterio mask and with Mysterio’s music to distract Black & Humberto Carrillo after their match. Rollins and his followers beat down Black, getting the upper hand once again.

The Street Profits and Viking Raiders continued their competition in all things that aren’t wrestling. This time they went to a draw in a decathlon.

Are we seeing the end of Zelina Vega’s stable of studs? In the triple threat match for a shot at Apollo Crews, Andrade & Angel Garza came to blows constantly. At one point they knocked over their manager, who was furious after the match. Who will retain her services if they do break up? It’s intriguing, since both men are better suited to having a manager than being on their own.

New Japan Shows Starting in June

NJPW is making a comeback! After being on hiatus during the Coronavirus pandemic, New Japan announced Tuesday evening that they’ll begin running empty arena shows on June 15th (h/t CagesideSeats). The announcement also included the announcement of the New Japan Cup, starting on June 16th. It will be exciting to get more New Japan wrestling after a long few months without it.

Women’s Tag Title Match Announced For Backlash

Sasha Banks and Bayley are going to have two teams to deal with on Sunday. It was announced Monday during the day that both Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross and the IIconics would challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championships at Backlash. These three teams seem to be the only ones WWE has established for their women’s tag division. The creation of new teams, or at least loose allies, would make the division stronger overall.

One for the Road:

Tommaso Ciampa has gone to bat for NXT against some criticism from Randy Orton. Sleep tight, Ciampa.
