The Boston College Eagles will have one of their former players from the 2020 NFL Draft Class on an NFL roster right down Interstate 95. Jake Burt, a former tight end with Boston College, signed a contract with the New England Patriots.
Burt signed a three-year deal that includes $80,000 in guaranteed money, one of the highest totals for any undrafted tight end in this year’s class.
So who exactly is Jake Burt?
Burt grew up in Lynnfield Massachusetts and went to St. Johns Prep in Danvers. He was an ESPN Boston All-State player at St. John’s Prep. Burt received offers from Brown, Harvard, Holy Cross and Old Dominion before choosing Boston College. The 6-3, 230-pound Burt played as a redshirt graduate in 2019, catching 15 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown as a senior. Unfortunately, his last season was cut short because he suffered a broken collarbone in a Nov. 23 loss to Notre Dame.
Here is a breakdown of Burt’s stats at Boston College:
Burt recorded some career highs n 2019 before his injury. In fact, he was on the John Mackey Award watch list, which is given annually to the game’s top tight end.

Some of Burt’s highlights include a 55 yard touchdown reception in the Richmond game, and then catching three passes at home against the Kansas Jayhawks.

Burt is now one of five tight ends on the Patriots’ current roster. Third-round draft picks Dalton Keene (Virginia Tech), Devin Asiasi (UCLA) as well as veterans Ryan Izzo and Matt LaCosse.
Burt has his work cut out for him if he wants to make this 2020 Patriots team. He does have one thing going for him, however, and that’s the fact Bill Belichick is not afraid to keep an undrafted player on the 53 man roster. Players like Malcolm Butler, Jonathan Jones, Brandon Bolden, and Jacob Hollister all made the team as undrafted rookes. Infact, in the past three years alone, Belichick has kept 8 undrafted rookies.
