As the interminable summer rolls on and the Las Vegas Raiders await their season, the team keeps churning out quotes. As a result, we’ll discuss them here.
Raiders Defensive End Maxx Crosby, on Patrick Mahomes
“I was close as few times. It pissed me off pretty much. Every second after that game was over, a couple times I was just mad. . . He’s a different type of player too. He’s one of those guys. He just backpedals, he’ll throw the ball from weird angles, it’s not like sacking a regular quarterback. Yeah, I’m definitely looking forward to sacking him. It needs to happen. It’s definitely going to happen.”
Translation: With nary a minced word, Crosby sets his sights on Mahomes. Despite completing a stellar rookie campaign, Crosby wants to drop Mahomes. More importantly, Crosby seems to know a few of Mahomes’ tendencies. The Raiders need another double-digit sack campaign from Number 98.
Element Sports Agency, discussing Lynn Bowden
“During the process, authorities handcuffed all who were present to secure the area. Lynn fully cooperated with law enforcement during the search. At the conclusion of the search, Lynn was released, not arrested and not charged with any crime. In fact, no arrests were made.”
Translation
Without delay, fans and some media voices sprained their legs, jumping to conclusions. Everyone wanted to claim Lynn Bowden committed a crime. While we still have no idea why federal agents showed up, Bowden was not arrested. If the DEA wanted to take Bowden, he would sit in a cell. Whatever they seek, may or not concern the rookie.
Former Titans TE Delanie Walker, on Marcus Mariota
“Sometimes the people we’ve known for a short amount of time have the biggest impact on our lives, even more than those we’ve known forever,”
Translation
This quote speaks volumes about the league consensus regarding Marcus Mariota. Walker, presumably at the end of his career, took time and money to commission matching pairs of Air Force Ones to commemorate his Titans career with Mariota. The Raiders, when they signed Mariota, knew that he would arrive with zero baggage, but truckloads of praise and respect from teammates.
