The Wrestling Roundup is here to bring you all the news and rumors you need to know in one place.
WWE SmackDown Results
Another week, another dose of the blue brand. This one promised to have Sheamus give a toast to Jeff Hardy in a spot that was destined to be classy. What else did SmackDown give us? Here are the results:
- Matt Riddle def. John Morrison
- A.J. Styles (c) def. Drew Gulak to retain the Intercontinental Championship
- Bayley def. Alexa Bliss by disqualification
- Shinsuke Nakamura def. Kofi Kingston
The segment between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus was Sheamus attempting to lead Hardy out of sobriety. This feud continues to tread some iffy territory for a midcard angle. Hardy should dispatch of Sheamus soon and move on to other things.
There are rumors that King Corbin was not happy with being the first feud of Matt Riddle on the main roster. It seems like that doesn’t matter, as he and Riddle had a face to face on this week’s how. Corbin is a great first feud for Riddle as he gets added to the main roster.
Did you know that Bayley is the greatest champion of all time? Well, now you do.
WWE Institutes Mask Policy
After an outbreak of dozens of positive cases stemming from a set of WWE tapings, the company finally has a mask policy. According to PWInsider, the company now expects masks to be worn at all times except for when performing in the ring (h/t Fightful). There are fines associated for first-time and repeat offenders.
Kairi Sane Returning To Japan
It appears that the Pirate Princess is not long for WWE. According to the Wrestling Observer, Sane is on her way to Japan (h/t CagesideSeats). Apparently this has been the plan for a while, with a plan in place to write Sane out of WWE. She was to be taken out with a “career-ending injury” by Asuka’s Summerslam opponent. With her real life injury, it appears that Sane’s time in WWE has come to a close.
The Ascension Get A New Name
Konnor & Viktor, formerly known as the Ascension, will now be known as The Awakening (h/t WrestlingInc). I hope they’re much more successful than they were allowed to be in WWE. Let’s hope they don’t get buried by old guys on the indies.
One for the Road:
