The big surprise on this week’s episode was the return of Heath Slater. Slater cut an impassioned promo on Drew McIntyre about getting a match against him. He got a quick match, but it’s the promo that people will remember. If this is the last time we see Slater on WWE TV, he went out with a bang.
WWE also debuted a new United States Championship. MVP debuted it, saying he’s the champ now that he’s defeated Apollo Crews one-on-one. The title has received mixed reviews. Having customizable side plates is a plus, but the font feels a little too WordArt for me.
That's a beauty. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸@The305MVP has unveiled a NEW #USTitle on #WWERaw, claiming that he IS the new champion after defeating @WWEApollo last week! pic.twitter.com/GzyOzS9vUQ

Rey Mysterio & Seth Rollins will battle at Extreme Rules. Mysterio won their match tonight, allowing him to pick the stipulation. He chose an Eye for an Eye match. What does that mean? Who knows, but somebody will end up looking like Nick Fury when this is over.
Bayley versus Asuka was the main event, and it was predictably excellent. The surprise was earlier in the night when Kairi Sane returned. She had been reported to be on her way back to Japan already to be with her husband and ending her WWE contract. Instead, she was on this week’s show against Sasha Banks. Will WWE have Asuka’s Summerslam opponent end Kairi’s WWE run for heat? Probably!

Summerslam Moving to WWE PC
Given the increase in COVID-19 cases in the United States, this latest news is not a surprise: WWE is hosting Summerslam in the Performance Center. According to PWInsider, WWE is moving the event from Boston, Massachusetts. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh had mentioned in May that Boston was not going to be hosting any large gatherings in the city through to the end of the summer. The continued pandemic will make Summerslam the fifth main roster show to happen at the WWE PC.
Rey Mysterio Working Without A Contract
According to Dave Meltzer, Rey Mysterio has been working his WWE dates without a contract (h/t WrestlingInc). Mysterio is currently involved in one of the most prominent storylines on WWE Raw. He and his son Dominick have been feuding with Seth Rollins and his disciples for the last few weeks. Mysterio’s desire to work alongside his son could be why he has continued to work without agreeing to a new deal.
