Bucs Friday Injury Report: Evans Officially Doubtful

After a couple of days of missed practices, Mike Evans returned to the practice field on Friday but is officially doubtful dor the Buccaneers season opener against the Saints on Sunday in New Orleans.

Bucs are listing receiver Mike Evans as doubtful for Sunday’s opener at the Saints due to his hamstring injury.

He missed the final three games of 2019 with a hamstring injury but coach Bruce Arians doesn’t believe this current injury is related. Arians called Evans a game-time decision.

“He did some individual stuff today,” Arians said on Friday. “We’ll see if he’s sore tomorrow, but he’ll probably be a game-time decision.”

To guard against Mike Evans missing Sunday’s game, I’d think Bucs will elevate WR Cyril Grayson from the practice squad on Saturday. Either he or rookie Tyler Johnson could dress for added WR depth.

In two losses to the Saints a year ago, Evans had just four receptions for 69 yards and no touchdowns. If Evans is unable to go on Sunday, quarterback Tom Brady will have to look elsewhere among the Bucs stable of offensive weapons. Rob Gronkowksi, already in line for a big game given his familiarity with Brady, may see his role increase in Evans’ absence.
