The narrative in the NFL this offseason has been that the Jaguars are “tanking” for Lawrence. Well, if today was any indication, that was a complete myth.
The Jaguars, led by several rookies and Gardner Minshew, defeated the Colts by the score of 27-20.
Gardner Minshew made a statement today to the entire NFL. The second year quarterback completed 19 of 20 passes, and threw for 3 touchdowns (0 interceptions). Minshew looked poised in the pocket and delivered several key passes in today’s win.
James Robinson, the undrafted free agent, ran for 62 yards on 16 carries. He also added this 28 yard catch-and-run from Minshew in the 4th quarter. Wow.

Laviska Shenault Jr., the talented receiver from Colorado, also had a great debut. He had 2 carries for 10 yards, and 3 catches for 37 yards. The highlight of his game today was this nice catch-and-run for a touchdown right before halftime.

Lastly, C.J. Henderson was as good as advertised in his first NFL game. He had 5 tackles, 1 interception and 3 passes deflected.
He, however, arguably saved his best play for last when he stopped T.Y. Hilton on 4th down to seal the game. He looked like a true veteran out there in what was his NFL debut. This guy is going to be good.

The rookies played huge roles in today’s win. A lot of credit needs to be given to Doug Marrone and his staff. This team is so young, but you definitely couldn’t tell with the way they played today.
The Jaguars travel to Nashville to face off against the always tough Tennessee Titans.
