Ryan Kerrigan breaks record, gets honor
In what was an overwhelming performance by the Washington pass rush against the Philadelphia Eagles, another one of their own has been recognized for their performance.
Defensive end and mainstay Ryan Kerrigan was awarded with NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1. In the game against the Eagles, Kerrigan tallied 2 sacks on 11 snaps played. More importantly, the 2 sacks moved him past Dexter Manley for the all-time franchise sack record.

Since entering the NFL in 2011, Kerrigan ranks 4th in sacks (92) only behind Von Miller, Chandler Jones, and J.J. Watt. Miller and Watt both came into the league in 2011 with Ryan.
Kerrigan winning this award comes on the heels of rookie defensive end Chase Young winning NFC Defensive Rookie of the Week for his 1.5 sack 4 total tackle performance. Young was additionally a disrupting force in the run game and showcased his football IQ by dropping back and preventing a screen play from developing.
Washington will need more of the same play from both men if they want to beat Arizona this weekend.
