Week Three Live Blog: Patriots vs. Raiders

Welcome to the Week Three Live Blog! The Patriots welcome the Las Vegas Raiders to Foxborough today in a 1:00 PM matchup of two teams with playoff aspirations. The Raiders (2-0) upset the New Orleans Saints last week while the Patriots (1-1) suffered a painful loss in Seattle where they had the opportunity to win the game. Both teams are banged up, so neither has any excuse.

12:30- Field Goal, Patriots! Decent drive, but Newton needs more protection. It might be smart for the Patriots to spread out the Raiders and see if that works. Patriots 3, Raiders 3

12:32- Raiders get away with a bad hold and it leads to 15; 1st & 10

12:25- FUMBLE, PATRIOTS RECOVER!! Another turnover and the Patriots offense is headed back on the field. Newton looks out of sorts today; maybe he can get his mojo back on this series. 1st & 10…

:15- ANOTHER holding call ignored, what a joke. Gain of 12; 1st & 10…

:07- Touchdown overruled, but the Raiders still have time for another play; 1st & Goal…two seconds will be added to the clock.

:09- 1st & Goal, no timeouts left so here comes a throw…

:06- Touchdown, Raiders. Wow. 28 seconds. That is how long it took to get down the field. The Patriots need to fix the personnel in their front seven, first and foremost. Patriots 13, Raiders, 10

:06- Newton takes a knee, and the Patriots and Raiders will head to the half. Patriots 13, Raiders 10

:16- Wow! Hurdle for a 1st, you don’t see that every day. That is the final play of the 3rd, and the Raiders are moving. Patriots 23, Raiders 10

FOURTH QUARTER

14:18- Bentley makes a nice play after Butler blew up the LOS; loss of one. 2nd & 11…

13:35- Simon makes the read but can’t make the tackle; gain of five. 3rd & 6…

12:55- Carr runs for eight and a 1st down; 1st & 10 from the Patriots 12…and the Patriots just used their final timeout. That is horrible game management. That can’t happen.

11:22- Field goal, Raiders. The Raiders needed seven, but New England held again. Patriots 23, Raider 13

5:39- Burkhead rips through for 15 more; 1st & Goal…

5:17- Burkhead appeared to score, but his elbow may be down at the one-inch line…TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Burkhead picks up his third rushing touchdowns, but the extra point is missed, which is HUGE. This is now a two-score game, not three. Patriots 29, Raiders 13

5:13- SAFETY!! If the Patriots still had timeouts, they could review it (the league automatically reviews it because it was a scoring play. That is going to be a touchdown for Deitrich Wise…)

5:10- TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Wise with the recovery on the strip-sack and the Patriots extend their lead to 23. After a rough start and questionable run defense, the Patriots figured out how to shut down Darren Waller, which changed the Raiders game plan offensively. The Patriots are not overly talented defensively, but they are making plays when needed. Patriots 36, Raiders 13

1:43- Newton straight ahead for one; 2nd & 9 and the Raiders have not called a timeout…

1:05- That will do it as the Raiders leave two timeouts on the board (odd) and Cam Newton takes a knee. For a team dealing with a major injury in David Andrews, it was good to see the offense get it going, and the run game was incredible.
