In surprising news, the Washington Football Team decided to bench starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins today.
This was first reported Wednesday morning, and has been corroborated by multiple sources, including Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Sources: The Washington Football Team is making a QB change. Kyle Allen will get the start vs. the #Rams, while former starter Dwayne Haskins goes to the bench.

The team has announced that backup quarterback Kyle Allen will take his place, at least for this Sunday’s match-up against the Los Angeles Rams. What is surprising is that although Haskins has not been performing at an elite level, he still is coming off arguably his best game of the season, including his first ever 300 yard game. Now he has been demoted, and is listed as the third option for this week’s game.
Not only is Dwayne Haskins not starting for the Washington Football Team on Sunday, he's not even No. 2. Alex Smith will back up Kyle Allen against the #Rams.

I suspect that there is more that meets the eye when it comes to this demotion, for Rivera has drawn a hardline in the sand with players who have not followed his strict standards. In fact, in 2016, Rivera had benched his starting quarterback, Cam Newton for a series, for not adhering to his dress code policy for an away game.
Many forget that Ron Rivera benched Cam Newton in 2016 for not wearing a necktie on a team flight.
I'd suspect there is more to the story than QB play.
Probably didn't help that Haskins' agent was criticizing the team/fanbase this week. #WashingtonFootball
