On Monday, Washington announced they hired Andre Chambers as the teams first Chief People Officer (CPO). “Andre is the perfect fit for this pivotal role at this crucial time for our organization,” said team President Jason Wright.
Andre most recently comes from the Oakland Athletics and brings with him a background of HR work with various Fortune 500 companies.
According to the SHRM website, a CPO (or another term is a Chief Human Resource Officer/CHRO), “is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization…The CPO provides strategic leadership by articulating HR needs and plans to the executive management team, shareholders, and the board of directors.”
When Mr. Wright came in over the summer, one of his main priorities was to create and build out an actual human resources department. Something that had been lacking the previous 20 years under owner Daniel Snyder. The lack of an HR department is what some have speculated led to the despicable acts detailed in multiple Washington Post stories that came out starting July 2020.
Washington is still waiting to hear from the NFL about the independent investigation that lawyer Beth Wilkinson oversees is thoroughly completing. The timeline of when that will be finished is still unknown.
