Week 10 snap counts are out. Here is what we know.
Week 10 has come and gone, but there is still plenty to dissect. Snap counts are a part of that picture that gets drawn along with evaluating game film.
Offense
#Washingtonfootball snap count from #Lions offense 88 total @FPC_WSH
RB: McKissic (62/70%), Gibson (33/38%), Barber (1/1%)
TE: Thomas (87/99%), Sprinkle (4/5%), Hemingway (1/1%)
WR: McLaurin (86/98%), C. Sims (83/94%), S. Sims (40/45%), Wright (29/33%), Badet (5/6%)— Alan Lepore (@AlanLepore) November 16, 2020
What might actually be the most surprising with the offensive snap counts is that running back J.D. McKissic wasn’t on the field for all 88 snaps. It certainly felt like it with his 14 targets–11 of 21 team total in the first half–in the passing game. Rookie Antonio Gibson continues to see his snap share under 50-percent.
The offense clearly used less two tight end sets in favor of having more three wide receivers in combination with two running backs.
With wide receiver Dontrelle Inman out, that meant a greater chance of Cam Sims to shine again after posting his first 100-yard receiving game against the New York Giants. You could also lend that Steven Sims, Jr. snap count was more then half of Cam Sims is that he is not as effective run blocking. Rookie Isaiah Wright and Jeff Badet wrap things up with a combined 34 offensive snaps.

On defense there are a couple of items to not. It is not that safety Troy Apke saw significant playing time. That was due to Deshazor Everett going down with a high ankle sprain.
No, it is that Kevin Pierre-Louis saw his lowest snap total of the season. There was a point in the game, because of terrible gap integrity against the run, defensive tackle Tim Settle was added in the rotation. The defense ran with five defensive line man at certain points in the second half. This will be something to keep an eye on moving forward. Does KPL eventually relinquish his spot for rookie Khaleke Hudson, or does defensive coordinator Jack del Rio decide to continue using five defensive linemen against the run.
Additionally, Cole Holcomb seems to have solidified his role as a guaranteed starter in the outside linebacker position. Holcomb missed a little bit of time earlier this year due to an injury, but he has added speed and range that was missing. The coaching staff have loved what Cole has brought to the defense since they started modified OTAs and training camps. We could see him as a mainstay as long as this coaching staff is around.
One final item to note is that Thomas Davis, Sr. was a healthy scratch yet again on Sunday. No one is quite sure what is going on there, but if he were to return, it is possible he could take over KPL or Jon Bostic’s starting spot.
