Who should Edge face at Wrestlemania 37?
In a minor surprise, Edge won the Men’s Royal Rumble from the #1 spot this past Sunday. He was able to fend off a vicious Randy Orton, odds-on favorites like Daniel Bryan & Big E, and 26 other competitors to earn a title shot at Wrestlemania 37. The poetry of Edge winning his second Rumble match 11 years to the day of his first was great, even if there are some who are negative towards his win. True, WWE could have used the match to elevate a new star, but Edge is such a popular returning star that fans can forgive.
The question now is who Edge should face at Wrestlemania 37. There are the three current champions as options, as well as two challengers. We’ll rank them from the worst to best option.
5: Sheamus (WWE Championship)
Sheamus is the most interesting he’s been as a singles wrestler in a long time. He recently turned on “friend” Drew McIntyre on Raw, and has reverted back to being a heel. McIntyre guaranteed Sheamus a title shot, but this feels like the quintessential stop-gap feud for the world champ between the Rumble & Wrestlemania. It was a surprise when Sheamus became WWE Champion in 2015 (remember that?), and 2021 is extremely unlikely. A match with Edge would have much less build, and just doesn’t feel that interesting. This match is the least likely, and the least exciting.
4: Pete Dunne (NXT Championship)
Edge made his way to NXT this week to confront both Pete Dunne and NXT Champion Finn Balor. He said he’d be watching their match at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance carefully, but does Edge-Dunne really get people excited? Dunne would work a methodical match with Edge, but simply doesn’t have the same star power as some of the other choices. He may be able to capture the title from Finn Balor and add even more gold to his stable, but his opponent at Wrestlemania shouldn’t be Edge.

3. Finn Balor (NXT Championship)
If Balor is able to fend off Dunne, he’ll need a challenger for Wrestlemania weekend. Edge doesn’t fit particularly well for a few reasons. Both men are faces, even if Balor occupies a bit more of a tweener space at the moment. There’s also not a lot of story to draw on here. Edge has spent the entirety of his life on the main roster, so why would he want the NXT Championship? Sure he’s never had it before, but it just feels small for a part time legend like Edge.
2. Drew McIntyre (WWE Championship)
McIntyre represents an interesting option for Edge. The two had a faceoff on Raw, with Edge wanting to see McIntyre take him seriously as a threat. Edge told him he’s not an opportunist like him, and could that be the impetus for a McIntyre heel turn? He’s been a babyface since winning the Rumble last year, and having Edge bring out a more vicious side of him would be intriguing. We’ve seen McIntyre be an excellent heel in WWE, and Edge could bring that back out in him.
1. Roman Reigns (Universal Championship)
The best option for Edge is to hop over to SmackDown and challenge The Head of The Table, Roman Reigns. Reigns has been an unstoppable force since returning and gaining the Universal Championship. Edge could be the most formidable challenge to Reigns and his family. Reigns could attack Edge’s tag partner Christian who just returned to action. Edge could return to his Ultimate Opportunist ways, finding ways to match the mind games of Reigns and Paul Heyman. It’s just the most interesting feud, plain and simple. Sorry, Daniel Bryan – Edge should be the one to face Roman at Wrestlemania 37.
