The Atlantic League is moving their pitcher’s mound a foot behind the current 61 feet six inches. The “experts” who have suggested this are hoping for fewer swings and misses and less velocity so baseball can once again try and artificially pump more offense in the sport.
When MLB wanted to crack down on pitchers scuffing, etc, I was fine with that even though their motives weren’t pure. Messing with the pitcher’s mound that has been around since 1893 is just dumb! It’s been fine, near-perfect in fact. If batters can’t hit the pitchers, get better hitters. Why are you going to risk getting pitchers injured throwing from a distance that they’ve never thrown from as they moved up through the various levels of the sport.
If the league is so worried about offense, why not let players cork bats? Of course, I’m not serious. I just don’t get why baseball does everything it can to ruin pitching. Here’s a thought, maybe something that could come out of the study. A lot of pitchers throw high out of the strike zone at 100. It’s never hittable. Move that back a foot and that might now be a high strike.

Ep 102: Chiefs, Eagles Advance To The Super Bowl

Colorado Blizzard
Last night the New York Mets flew into Colorado. It was blizzarding there. Since the Mets keep getting games postponed, now it’s the weather and not Covid-19, the weather is going to be a huge issue this series. When the Mets and Rockies hit the field it will be somewhere around 30 degrees and possibly snowing. Both Friday and Saturday’s games should have been moved to the daytime. Right now, roads are bad there so attendance isn’t going to be good. Think about the players at least playing in 45–55-degree weather instead of freezing weather at night with at least 10 MPH winds. Rob Manfred and the powers that be never seem to react to these things early in the baseball season and games played in bad conditions as a result.

Ronald Acuna Jr. Is Off To A Torrid Start
Ronald Acuna Jr. has seven homers in his first 52 at-bats in 2021. He has 14 RBI, his slugging percentage is 1.000 and his on-base percentage is in Ted Williams territory at .492. Even with this great start, somehow the Braves are 5-8 sitting in fourth place in the NL East.
Atlanta has had starting pitching issues including, Max Fried who has started off slow and is now on the IL with a hamstring issue. Fried won 17 games in 2019 and was 7-0 in 2020, so what’s wrong with him now?
Nobody really knows but last year may have been an aberration. It was a weird year. This year he will be expected to get back to at least a 15-win form. If not this is bad news for the Braves who aren’t very deep at starting pitching, to begin with.
