Brewers Add Shortstop Willy Adames

In a rare May four-player trade, the Milwaukee Brewers traded relievers J.P Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen to the Tampa Bay Rays for shortstop Willy Adames and pitcher Trevor Richards.

The Brewers were having trouble with good offensive production from the shortstop position, and the fielding was worse. Among the worst in the National League.

Adames has good power but isn’t showing that at the moment. His hitting will come around, but in the meantime, Adames is up there in the runs saved category and that’s something the Brewers needed to sure up if they wanted to stay in the race in the N.L. Central., this was necessary, and they acted quickly, while they were only four games off the division lead.

Machado’s Take Out Slide

Manny Machado recently took out St. Louis Cardinals infielder Tommy Edman. For years and years, there was nothing wrong with this play. That changed over the years. Chase Utley took out Met’s shortstop Ruben Tejada, in the 2015 Divisional Playoffs while Utley was playing for the Dodgers.

This latest slide saw Machado get a five-game suspension. Since the neighborhood play had been done away with, that kept most infielders anchored to the bag taking away the chance for this kind of dirty play, which most of the time the aggressor is almost out of the baseline.

Hal McRae practically invented that rolling slide to take out second baseman or shortstops trying to double him up. He was fearless, and so is Machado, who stated he would do it again. This is old-time baseball, and while many of us don’t like it anymore, this was an homage to the past without sharpening the spikes as Ty Cobb would do in his era.

Albert Pujols Still Has Some Juice Left

Albert Pujols has been on the Los Angeles Dodgers for a short time, and so far, he’s been better than he was with the Los Angeles Angels. In his first five games, he hit .267 with a home run and 4 RBI. Every home run Pujols hits puts him closer to moving up a rung on the all-time home run ladder.

In the game, he went deep. He was hitting sixth. He can still play first base, and the future Hall-of-Famer is seeing better pitches. Pujols could be a valuable depth addition especially when the Dodgers get into the postseason to defend their championship. In the end, the Dodgers are winning most of the games he’s in, and he’ll play for as long as that continues.
