Unvaccinated Players May Augment MLB Trade Deadline

July 30^th is the date for the Major League Baseball trading deadline. 4 PM or before is the time stamp that needs to be on any transaction if you want to make a big trade for a pennant run. We will talk about how you can add players in other ways on another day.

Even if you support players not getting vaccinated, do you still support your team trading key assets like top prospects in your organization for a player who has a better chance of ending up on the IL rather than one who is vaccinated?

What if the Mets get the medicals on Kris Bryant and find that he’s unvaccinated? Should they trade their top prospect for him? I say, no way. If you trade a prospect that could be with you for 5-10 years, you want a player you believe will be healthy. This is one strike against players like this just ask the Yankees and Phillies who’ve had that issue recently and that’s one reason why they are trailing in their respective divisions

Possible Additions for NL Teams

The Mets added Rich Hill and found out why he’s a five-inning pitcher. They tried using him in the sixth and that was a mistake but otherwise, he can still go five. Why didn’t the Phillies go after him?

Nobody has picked up Cole Hamels. Not even the Phillies are allowed to go over the luxury tax and they need a starter and a reliever. Craig Kimbrel should be their target if they hope to catch the Mets. The others out there may not be good enough to get the job done. If the Blue Jays don’t get hot, Ross Stripling could be a good starter that won’t break the bank prospect-wise and money-wise for Philadelphia.

According to www.rotochamps.com the Cincinnati Reds bullpen only has 13 saves on the season with no ERA under 4! The Reds sit 6.5 out in the Central trailing Milwaukee. They hit a lot of home runs, especially at home as I’ve outlined before and now their season is on the brink unless they can get Kimbrel, or maybe Ian Kennedy who plays for the Texas Rangers. His ERA is 2.59 and he has 15 saves in 31 games. If the Reds did this, I think they could get back in the race and possibly the Wild Card race. The Reds’ last two homestands against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals could decide their season. They’re in the middle of the pack for team home runs but they’re ninth in RBi and the name of the game is getting runs across the plate. They are 10^th in total bases as well, so there’s enough here with this team to go for it. Let’s see if they do.

They didn’t advance in the playoffs in 2020 but with some tweaks, they may be able to in 2021.
