Preston Williams, Elandon Roberts Activated Off PUP

The Miami Dolphins have activated third-year wide receiver Preston Williams and veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list today, an official press release said.

Williams (foot), Roberts (knee) Didn’t Finish 2020-21 Season

After sustaining a season-ending foot injury against the Arizona Cardinals last season, Williams looks to make the 2021-22 roster and complete his first full season. His rookie campaign ended early after he tore his ACL in a game against the New York Jets.

Roberts reaggravated a knee injury during the Dolphins’ Week 16 win against the Las Vegas Raiders causing him to miss Miami’s finale against the Buffalo Bills. He was put on the PUP list with what turned into be a significant knee injury after the aggravation.

Williams has played in 16 games (14 starts) in his two shortened seasons for the Dolphins. He has 50 receptions for 716 yards and seven touchdowns.

Roberts played in 13 games (11 starts) for Miami last season. He had 61 tackles (33 solo), 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He has played a majority of his career with the New England Patriots, highlighted by two Super Bowls.

Depth Chart Could Work Against Both Players

Williams is currently slotted at the bottom of the depth chart, but has until Aug. 31 to prove he deserves to be moved up and make the team. However, a strong camp from fellow wideouts Albert Wilson and Mack Hollins is making his comeback to the NFL, at least in the orange and teal, a challenge.

The official depth chart has not yet been updated to show Roberts’ current placement.

Williams, Roberts Expected at Practice, in Preseason Games

Both Williams and Roberts are reported to take place in practice, as early as Thursday, but it is unclear how much the two will participate and what usage they will have in Miami’s two remaining preseason games.
