Ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline, the Miami Dolphins have traded a TBA late round pick for Baltimore Ravens’ offensive lineman Greg Mancz.
Miami has traded a TBA late-round draft pick to Baltimore for OL Greg Mancz.
The 29-year-old has played six years in Houston before hopping to the Ravens (no games) and now Dolphins.
Miami is trying to solidify a solid OL before Sept. 12.@FullPressNFL #NFLtrades #FinsUp— Full Press Dolphins (9-8) (@FPC_Dolphins) August 28, 2021
Dolphins Need a Stronger OL, Go After Veteran Mancz
The move comes as the Dolphins push to finalize its starting offensive line and provide solid backups. Miami currently has a line composed of youth and inexperience that has proved costly in the last year, in both 2020 and during this preseason.
Mancz is entering his seventh NFL season and played his previous six with the Houston Texans. He joined the Ravens in the offseason and never suited up for a game for them.
Mancz was Starting Center, Utility Lineman for Texans
The move makes sense for the Dolphins for multiple reasons.
Mancz is capable of playing multiple positions on the OL and could push less-than-appealing options such as center Matt Skura and tackle Robert Jones off the roster. Additionally, he can also play behind veteran center/guard Michael Deiter, or him, in the event of injury. Mancz was the starting center for the Texans, but more recently bounced around as useful utility.

Days Left to Finalize Starters, Backups
It’s important to note that it seems like the Dolphins have been holding a lineman tryout in recent weeks as well.
They’ve brought in Jermaine Eluemunor, Isaiah Wilson and D.J. Fluker, but have all already been released.
The team now sees a handful of rookies it drafted in 2020 competing with this year’s rookie Liam Eichenberg, and recently traded for Greg Little, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, as its finalists for the starting and backup roles on the OL.
