Most notably, Patten played a huge role in the franchise’s first Super Bowl win, racking up 13 receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders, Steelers, and Rams. One of his touchdowns came in a memorable fashion as the only offensive touchdown in the Super Bowl for the Patriots against the Rams. His other was the only offensive touchdown scored in the AFC Championship Game that year.
Gutted to hear about the passing of #Patriots legend David Patten. One of the key members of the early dynasty years. Here is Tom Brady breaking down Patten’s touchdown catch in Super Bowl 36. RIP to a Pats legend. pic.twitter.com/4jxAiN5MJ0

During his four seasons with the team, Patten compiled 165 catches for 2,513 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, no game was more memorable than October 21st, 2001 when the Patriots took on the division rival Colts and Patten became the eighth player in NFL history, and the first since Walter Payton, to throw, run, and catch a touchdown pass in the same game. He finished 1-of-1 for 60 yards and touchdown passing, one rush for 29 yards and a touchdown, and he had four receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
