Tom Brady Continues MVP Pace In Win Over Dolphins

The future of the NFL is in great hands with some of the young quarterbacks in the league. Patrick Mahomes has already won a Super Bowl. Josh Allen looks to be the real deal. Kyler Murray is as unique as he is exciting to watch and Justin Herbert may be the best of the group. However, it’s the 44-year-old who has been playing since many of these quarterbacks were in diapers, literally, that still reigns atop the quarterback hierarchy and should be the frontrunner for NFL MVP.

Of course, we are talking about Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady who put on another MVP-worthy performance in the Bucs 45-17 in over the Dolphins to help the team move to 4-1. Brady was nearly flawless, completing 30-of-41 passes for 411 yards and five touchdowns. It is the second time he has thrown five touchdowns in a game and third time in five games he has thrown at least four. His 15 touchdown passes on the season are second to only Patrick Mahomes. However, his 1,797 yards passing are second-to-none as he continues to shred opposing defenses.

The 45 points by the Buccaneers was the sixth time the team has scored at least 44 points since Brady took over last season. Prior to Brady’s arrival, the Bucs accomplished this feat just six times in their entire 44-year history. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Brady and Bucs do this again, perhaps more than once, this season.

Brady, at 353.4 yards per game, is currently on pace to be the first quarterback to throw for over 6,000 yards in a season. In addition, he is on pace to throw for 51 touchdowns which would be a career-high and the second time that he broke 50 in his career. The addition of the 17th game makes both feats more attainable. His only two interceptions of the season came in week one, some 200-consecutive passes ago, breaking a Buccaneers franchise record held by… himself. The stats don’t even do it justice as Brady has done an incredible job of keeping the ball out of harm’s way.

With games upcoming against the Eagles, Bears, and Saints, it is reasonable Brady maintains a similar pace heading into the team’s bye week. In fact, the Buccaneers don’t play another team that is currently over .500 until a December 12th matchup with the Bills. And, even then, the Bills are clearly the toughest remaining team outside of unpredictable divisional matchups. The stage is perfectly set for Brady to win his fourth MVP at age 44. And, let’s face it, through five weeks, it is truly his to lose.
