Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy might face a do-or-die game against the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay has a history of finishing off Bears coaches.
With another disappointing season for the Chicago Bears, it seems that Matt Nagy is on a red-hot seat. The Bears, under his leadership, haven’t been the same since his first season when the team went 12-4. Even then, the offense struggled down the stretch of the season. Since then, it’s been atrocious. Every season, the unit ranks at or near the bottom in nearly every offensive category.
Because of that, it appears that Nagy’s time in Chicago is nearing its end. The fans keep clamoring for his firing and people around the league constantly criticize his moves. At this point, it may be a matter of when and not if the Bears fire him.
That brings us to this week’s game against the hated Green Bay Packers. Once again, they’re dominating the NFC North, Also, they’re near the top in the NFC. All they do is win, while all the Bears do is invite dysfunction.
Packers have a history of finishing off Bears coaches
This will be an interesting game. The Bears have to keep from getting embarrassed on national television. This game is on Sunday Night Football so they’ll be the only game on at the time. Let’s see if they give a better effort than last week when it looked like most players (except for David Montgomery) were just going through the motions.
This game could end up being the final nail in Nagy’s coffin as the Chicago Bears head coach. If they suffer another embarrassing loss to the Packers, the McCaskeys might end up not waiting until the end of the season to fire him. The Bears never fired a coach mid-season but Nagy could be the first.
The Packers have a history of finishing off Bears coaches on the brink. In Adam Hoge’s latest story, he runs down how Aaron Rodgers and the Packers destroy weakened Chicago Bears coaches.

by Full Press Coverage on January 29, 2023 at 11:25 am
- In 2014, Marc Trestman sat on the same hot seat that Nagy is on now. The Bears went to Green Bay and Rodgers threw four touchdown passes in the second quarter and the Packers had a 42-0 halftime lead on their way to a 55-14 beatdown. Any question about Trestman’s job security was answered in that game. The Bears fired Trestman after the season ended.
- In 2017, the John Fox-led Bears hosted the Packers. Rodgers didn’t play in this game. His replacement, Brett Hundley, stepped up. This is the game in which Benny Cunningham had a run that was ruled out on the Packers’ one. Fox challenged the call, saying that Cunningham hit the pylon before going out of bounds. The officials reviewed and ruled that Cunningham actually fumbled it onto the pylon. Instead of having the ball at the one, the Bears turned the ball over. The Packers got the ball on their 20. The play brought ridicule to the Bears and the team fired Fox at the end of the season.

What will happen in this week’s game? Nagy’s fate probably isn’t in question. He will be fired at some point. The question now is whether the Packers once again hit the final nail in another Chicago Bears head coach’s coffin.
Even though we know how Nagy’s time will end, it’ll be nice if he and the Bears have one last stand and actually beat the Green Bay Packers before Nagy runs off into the sunset. We shouldn’t hold our breaths, however.
