Hands

You can tell immediately that the prospect puts time in with a JUGS machine. First, the strength of his hands in and away from his body snares the ball. More importantly, the contested catch factors in. Opponents can make contact but Doubs will fight through to make the catch. Furthermore, the body control extends the catching window over the sidelines.

Speed

Granted, Doubs will not streak by anyone, but he’s neither slow nor plodding. The second gear is the one that allows the prospect to bound away from coverage. On deep passes. he wins with precision and gait. The former Wolfpack wideout glides and gathers ground vertically.

Route Running

While the entire route tree remains open for the Nevada product, the way he presents the routes could entice teams to draft him. The prospect relies on his eyes to draw a proper depth on patterns. Versus zone coverage, he will settle in, giving the quarterback a viable option. Meanwhile, in facing man, Doubs drives off corners with route accuracy. The defender will trail off, taking an extra step, after the final cut, granting automatic separation.

Intangibles

As a prolific receiver, Doubs carries himself like the top option. Not so much with his words, but how he approaches the game. Opponents and teammates alike respect his approach. Doubs does not grant many interviews. Instead, he prefers to play and not chirp. The film translates that. Look at the routes where Doubs isn’t featured. He runs the patterns the exact same.

Raiders Fit

Outside of Hunter Renfrow, the Raiders lack a consistent outside receiving threat. No one really grabs attention and strikes fear into the hearts of defenders. Despite the frame to excel in the red zone, the Raiders rarely feature Bryan Edwards. On top of that, Zay Jones really hasn’t carved out a distinguishable role on the team. Now, if the Raiders retain those three, the need for another receiver exists. Doubs fits seamlessly into the depth aspect of the Raiders. Even if the team does make a splash in free agency with a receiver, they still need talent. Doubs presents as a number two target with a ceiling that could lend itself to a top target. Not to mention, another quality wideout would force defenses to stop bracketing Darren Waller. In return the Raiders would enjoy the ability to spread out defenses, picking on subpackage defenders that can’t stay with receivers. In addition, the ability to make the tough catches on third downs would serve any quarterback well. Plus, with punt return value, Doubs could figure into the special teams aspect of the Raiders.
