The Miami Dolphins defense has another opportunity to prove they’re one of the best units in the league when they take on the New Orleans Saints in prime time on Monday night.
Saints’ Rookie QB to Make First Career Start Monday Night
The Dolphins will look to feast on rookie quarterback Ian Book, New Orleans’ fourth starting QB this season. The Saints are forced to start the signal-caller out of the University of Notre Dame with QBs Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian landing on the COVID-19/Injured Reserve list.
Miami had six sacks alone in Week 15, that also came against a rookie QB in Zach Wilson. Except, Wilson has had all season to get acclimated to the NFL style of play – Book will be making his first career start.
“He’s been there the entire year so I’m sure he’s got a good handle on their offense and how they do things,” Miami head coach Brian Flores said of Book. “Ian Book, having spent a lot of time with him, he obviously showed good command of the offense in the Senior Bowl and I’m sure that will be the case on Sunday. He’s smart, tough. I’m sure they’ll put him in very good positions and he can make some throws.”
Flores worked with Book in the college Senior Bowl across a span last season.
Holland, Ogbah Could be in for Big Games in Prime Time
One of the players looking to make things tough for Book and the Saints is Dolphins’ rookie safety Jevon Holland. Holland returned after a one game absence from the COVID-19 list.
Holland has two interceptions in 10 games started, as well as three forced fumbles and two personal fumble recoveries. He also has 51 tackles, 35 solo, and two for a loss.
Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah also has a chance for a big game in the passes defensed department. He has 10 on the season, the most in his career, so far, and already has multiple games with multiple defensed.
He is also on pace to tie or break his career-best sack record that he set last season is his first season with Miami. With three games to play he has seven sacks and beat his career-high of nine.
Where Do Fins Sit in Playoff Picture?
The Dolphins’ secondary has been the backbone in their six-game win streak and look to help to keep Miami’s playoff hopes alive.
A win keeps it on pace in the AFC and would move the Dolphins to 8-7 overall, tied with the Baltimore Ravens, who they own the tiebreaker over, the Los Angeles Chargers, who were upset by the Houston Texans on Sunday, as well as the Las Vegas Raiders who beat the Denver Broncos in the later slate on Sunday. Additionally, with the Pittsburgh Steelers losing, a Miami win would jump it into the No. 7 spot and INTO the playoffs as it holds the tie breaker over Baltimore.

Ep 161: Lions Dissapoint; NFL MVP; Week 12 Discussion
by Full Press Coverage on November 27, 2023 at 12:12 am
Saints, Dolphins Biggest Difference Makers
Their biggest obstacle standing in the way is running back Alvin Kamara.
Miami’s rush defense has been Jeckyll and Hyde this season, and in many recent past seasons. Kamara returned from a month-long injury absence in Week 14 and amassed 120 yards on 27 carries while also picking up a touchdown. He was held more in check in Week 15, but it was a low-scoring, run-out-clock affair for the Saints, who wanted to hold onto a 9-0 win.
Kamara will also be New Orleans’ emergency QB if something should happen to Book, the NFL’s Peter Schrager confirms.
On offense for Miami, the Dolphins get wide receiver Jaylen Waddle back from the COVID-19 list. Waddle leads the team in receiving yards with 849 and 86 receptions. He needs just 16 in the final three games to surpass Anquan Boldin’s 2003 rookie record.
Miami and New Orleans will take the field under the lights in prime time with kickoff coming at 8:20 p.m. on Monday night.
