Pass Blocking

Playing at Ohio State, Petit-Frere stood out as a left tackle. Now, he does offer a right tackle palette as well. Seeing his share of speed on the boundary means, usually one-move edges that try to win with a quick, singular move. The prospect meets them, keeps those feet moving, and attempts to drive the defender away. Those that do try to bull rush end up standing vertically, losing their bend and exposing themselves to a wide-open punch.

Run Blocking

At the next level, if Petit-Frere does slide to the right side, teams will benefit from his power, balance, agility and timing in the run game. The power allows him to drive the end inside. The balance, agility, and timing will force the end to tighten up. For example, versus the Wide Nine alignment, the hole created naturally expands with the vacating end. Frere seals that end, creating daylight.

Strength

With a solid base, driving from his feet, Petit-Frere generates a jolt that will delay or outright stonewall the rusher. Meanwhile, he activates power during the run, driving ends away from the play. Combining his footwork with the power aspect accentuates his game.

Athleticism

Basketball feet, that is to say, the prospect’s kick slide meets the wide-veering edge rusher. Comparatively, the former Buckeye’s hands work in concert with his feet. In space, whether on screens or run plays, this prospect can get to the second level, attacking linebackers and defensive back with equal aplomb. The tools exist, now he must elevate versus the best.

Raiders Fit

Outside of Kolton Miller, the Raiders do not employ many offensive linemen worth keeping. However, contracts and the financial burdens attached make shuttling everyone off difficult. With Denzelle Good returning, the team could employ two linemen. Meanwhile, Alex Leatherwood, via his first-round status occupies a roster spot. Now, the Raiders envisioned him as the right tackle of the future, to start from the first snap. Thirteen drive-killing penalties later, and the team shifted him to guard for the balance of the year. Meanwhile, Brandon Parker, after four seasons and thirty-two starts proved himself to not be the answer at right tackle. In contrast, Nicholas Petit-Frere offers hope. First, the team will not need to spend high draft capital on him. Next, he flashes the consistent athletic ability to man either tackle spot. More importantly, his mindset could draw the Raiders into the fold. Petit-Frere played in big games, never backing down from the moment or any edge rusher. On the field, his footwork and power suit him well on the right side, where left ends mostly want to use power first.
