When the 2022 NFL Combine in Indianapolis concluded, draftable prospects stepped onto the turf, showed out, and left. Now, for all of the hype from social media and other outlets, talent needs to produce. In all honesty, all arrived with that specific intention, only a select few managed to increase the zeroes in their first rookie contract, while others saw a decline in draft status and probable funds. Life in the NFL constantly evolves and stays static for no one. Under those circumstances, a good look into the events in Indiana must take place to appreciate the magnitude of the moment. Granted, everyone saw Jordan Davis thrill the league with his time in the 40. Meanwhile, others saw their draft stock tumble. Below, the best f
Cole Strange (G, Chattanooga)
With across-the-board numbers, the former All-Southern Conference lineman made himself some more. Now, before the draft Strange, according to many, would slide into a later-round draft pick. What his combine showed was a diverse skill set that could easily translate to the NFL. The 5.03 40 time, augmented by the 7.44 in the three-cone-drill shows explosion and agility. Strange should hear his name called early on Day Three, with a chance late on Day Two.
Christian Watson (WR, South Dakota State)
Entering this week, few knew of the former Jackrabbit. With good size (6’4, 200), experts pegged him as a big-bodied wideout with occasional verticality. However, the SDSU product thrilled scouts with a 4.36 time in the 40. Next, he added a 38.5-inch vertical jump. Lastly, no receiver fared better in the broad jump than an 11.4- broad jump. Overall, these numbers represent explosion and the ability to play the X-receiver spot in most offenses.
Amare Barno (EDGE, Virginia Tech)
Barno initially slotted as a later-round edge prospect with adequate tools, bolstered his stock this week. The 4.36 40-time, for an edge rusher, hovering around 245 pounds, opened eyes. By the same token, the ten-foot-eleven broad jump adds detail to his athletic palette. Barno profiles as a 3-4, situational pass rusher that will beat tackles with a lightning-quick first step.

Fallers
Treylon Burks (WR, Arkansas)
Before the Combine, many overlooked Burks’ route-running issues due to his ability to run away from defenders. Now, with the prospect of facing better competition, he needed to solidify his numbers. Unfortunately, the numbers painted a vastly different picture. The 4.55 for his size remains a good time, but not the elite burst that many believed. Next, the ten-foot-two-long jump did not showcase what many believe would be a phenomenal burst.
Roger McCreary (CB, Auburn)
Originally slotted to enter the latter half of the first round, the Auburn product ran a rather disappointing 4.55 With emphasis placed on corners that can also turn and run with wideouts. Additionally, will this play into the ability to drive on the ball during shorter routes? We all know that pr days will shave a bit of time. However, will it be enough to save his draft stock?
David Bell (WR, Purdue)
Bell’s ability to trace sound routes remains above reproach. The Boilermaker standout brings experience and nuance to the position. At the same time, he needed to perform better at the combine. That 4.65 time in the 40 looks to box Bell into strictly a possession receiver. Not to mention, the sub-ten foot broad jump shows a lack of meaningful explosion.
Redemption Arc
For the risers, the Combine provided an opportunity to make the NFL stand up and take notice. In contrast, those that faltered still can use the pro day to improve their numbers and reassure teams that their initial observations were correct. The NFL Combine and subsequent pro day give teams the chance to look and double-check.
