On Saturday night, Wrestlemania 38 Night One, inside AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, Cody Rhodes Returned Back to WWE.
Cody Rhodes Returns Home
There were numerous reports heading into Wrestlemania that Cody Rhodes had signed with WWE after his contract with AEW had expired. Rhodes wanted to keep this a secret, even though, most of the world knew where he had signed already. But with all the speculation around opponents and who could it be when it was finally announced that Seth Rollins was going to have a mystery opponent at Wrestlemania, we all knew it had to be Cody. Because if it wasn’t there was going to be a major letdown.
Whatever his issues were with AEW and Tony Khan, he decided it was best for him to go back and make a name for himself in WWE. When he left six years, Rhodes knew it was time. He was living in the shadow of his father Dusty Rhodes and his brother Dustin. Cody needed to go on the indies and make a name for himself. He did that by travelling the world and competing against the best wrestlers in the world.
Then along with Nick and Matt Jackson, Kenny Omega, Adam Page, and Tony Khan helped form All Elite Wrestling. Through his interviews and his entrances, it appeared Cody was destined to be with AEW for a long time. But when Cody made himself expandable in AEW, the door that had seemingly closed was once again reopened.

Cody Wants To Win The Big One
It was an emotional return for Cody Rhodes to WWE on Wrestlemania Night One. The reaction by the crowd showed that he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. And while he may have been away from WWE for six years, he returned to a hero welcome as he “jumped” ship from AEW to WWE. The fans that did not like him for leaving, welcomed his return. They showed they did not forget who he was or what he did in other promotions because the reaction he got is one of a true superstar.
And Cody knows he is destined to win the “Big One” in WWE this time around. In his post-interview match, Cody said he had a dream of winning the big one and he wanted to hand that title over to his father Dusty Rhodes. He never got the chance to do that the first go-round with WWE. But he is back to do that now. When speaking with Nick Khan, Bruce Prichard, and Vince McMahon, he told them that he is the best wrestler in the world and there is not a close second.
And the fact that WWE did not change up his character or anything proves that he is right. I mean just look at the reaction and pop he got from the audience. However, the reason Cody is here to win the big one was that he chose not to pursue the big one with AEW. He could have, but never did and held up his word when he lost to Chris Jericho for the AEW World Title. From that point on, he could never challenge for the AEW World Title ever again. Even though there were numerous title changes, Cody kept his word.
Cody Is a Babyface
Just like he kept his word about never turning heel. There were opportunities to turn heel. But Cody did not want to do it. And again going back to the reaction in Dallas, that was a pop a babyface wrestler deserved not a heel. Towards the end of his time in AEW, fans decided it was the right time to boo him. Whatever their reasons were we will never know, but Cody embraced it and still put on killer matches. Especially his last one against Sammy Guevara.
Cody even addressed this in his post-match interview, but you can clearly see he embraces being the role of a babyface. Because he is embracing he is the son of Dusty Rhodes and Dusty Rhodes was a babyface through and through. So is Cody.
After a great first reaction to his return, it will be interesting to see where this goes. Cody was challenging for the AEW title right away and failed. You have to wonder if he is heading straight to the top or if there is a stop or two along the way before he faces the champion. Whatever road he takes, it is the right one, because WWE has a superstar on their hands, the likes they haven’t seen in a long time.
