In this edition of NFL rumors, the Rams and Colts are interested in Stephon Gilmore, Deebo Samuel wants $25 million, and Joe Burrow’s future.
It is Wednesday evening which means another edition of NFL rumors, this time, we take a look at the evolving Stephon Gilmore market as two new teams have entered the fray.
The headline news of the day was the big-money contract extension signed by Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, keeping him in Las Vegas through the 2025 season. This is just another in a long line of moves made by teams within the AFC West and it likely won’t be the last. Now, the team that has dominated this division for the last several seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs, have been connected with free agent corner Stephon Gilmore for some time, however, two other teams look to emerge as serious contenders for the former defensive player of the year.
Let’s dive into the latest NFL rumors from around the league.
CB Stephon Gilmore – Rams, Colts Emerging As Suitors?
Rumor: Amid rumors that the Rams are interested in cornerback Stephon Gilmore, the former All-Pro cornerback took a visit with the Indianapolis Colts, per the transaction wire.
Earlier in the week, the Rams were mentioned as a team that had become a serious contender for the services of cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Los Angeles is already a “Who’s who” of big-name players so a pursuit of Gilmore to help their chances at defending their Super Bowl title makes all the sense in the world. Now, he is likely not the All-Pro caliber corner he was in New England, however, he will add plenty of value to any title-contending team. That’s where Indianapolis comes in. Since their acquisition of quarterback Matt Ryan, they are certainly more of a Super Bowl contender than before and probably since they had Andrew Luck under center. Gilmore could help solidify an already talented defense.

WR Deebo Samuel Seeks Long-Term Payday
Rumor: Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is reportedly seeking a long-term deal that would pay him $25 million per season. Additionally, the 49ers are eager to keep Samuel, rather than trade him, even at that price tag, per Tony Pauline.
Rumblings of Deebo Samuel wanting a new contract began last week and really, who can blame him after the money shelled out for guys like Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams? The 49ers are in a tricky position as they still have Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster when it seems all but certain they have moved on to Trey Lance. That is $25 million worth of cap space for a player that has no future with the 49ers. Of course, any move to re-sign Samuel will need the Jimmy G situation to be resolved first, especially considering, in the not too distant future, Joey Bosa will also be eligible for a new contract. There is a lot of work ahead for the 49ers’ front office.
QB Joe Burrow Not Long For Cincinnati?
Rumor: There is some skepticism around the league as to whether or not Bengals owner Mike Brown will be willing to pay the going rate to keep Joe Burrow in a Bengals uniform for many years to come, per Jeremy Fowler.
For years, Mike Brown has been known to be a bit more on the frugal side, even when it comes to the Bengals. That theory will be tested greatly when Burrow is set to sign his next contract. Given the fact that he has already taken the Bengals to a Super Bowl in his second season and the price of the latest quarterback contracts, he will likely land near the $50 million per season range in his next deal. Will it be for the Bengals? Honestly, its far too early to tell but the fact that we are even suggesting he won’t make it to a second contract suggests there could be an issue looming.
