After the Colts acquire quarterback Matt Ryan, they see themselves as a serious contender, albeit with a short window. Gilmore, age 32, certainly fits that type of player Indianapolis believes helps put them over the top.
Now, Gilmore is not the same player that won the DPOY award just three seasons ago but he is still considered one of the better corners in the game and certainly adds a ton of value to a defense that also added Yannick Ngakoue this offseason in a trade with the Raiders.
The AFC offseason upheaval continues with this latest move. Where the Colts rank among the AFC elite remains to be seen but they have upgraded at quarterback, defensive line, and cornerback. On paper, they are arguably the best team in the AFC South.
