The Patriots have completed a trade with the Raiders, sending quarterback Jarrett Stidham to Las Vegas for a 2023 sixth-round pick.
The Jarrett Stidham era in New England is over.
The Patriots traded Stidham, a fourth-round pick of New England in the 2019 draft, and a 2023 seventh-round pick to Las Vegas for a 2023 sixth-round pick. The move reunites the quarterback with former Patriots offensive coordinator and current Raiders head coach, Josh McDaniels.

For Stidham, the writing was on the wall once the Patriots spent a fourth-round pick on quarterback Bailey Zappe out of Western Kentucky. With starter Mac Jones, Brian Hoyer, and now Zappe, Stidham was very clearly the odd man out. However, there probably isn’t a better landing spot for Stidham as he will get a chance to grow under the same offensive coach he had for three years in New England.
In those three seasons with the Patriots, Stidham appeared in just eight games, completing 24-of-48 attempts for 256 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. During the first season post-Tom Brady, Stidham was relegated to backup duty behind Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer and didn’t get a start.
He will likely not see much playing time behind Derek Carr, however, he will certainly have a chance to grow behind Carr and sticking with McDaniels. In addition to Carr and now Stidham, the Raiders also have Nick Mullens, Garrett Gilbert, and Chase Garbers on the roster.
