The 2022 Kansas City Chiefs schedule has now been officially released. Included on the slate, are eight teams who made the playoffs last season, two of which were the recipients of Super Bowl LVI (Los Angeles Rams, Cincinnati Bengals). Other noteworthy games to look forward to come when the Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans, just to name a few other playoff teams from last year.
Kansas City Chiefs 2022 Schedule
WEEK 1
at Arizona Cardinals
Sunday, September 11th – CBS – 3:25pm CT
The Chiefs will open up the regular season by traveling to the desert in Arizona. As always, the quarterback matchup will garner much of the headlines. But with these two quarterbacks, they each have something in common. That is that both of Patrick Mahomes and Kyler Murray have played for current Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Both offenses could light up the scoreboard. Yet, Arizona’s top wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, will miss this game, due to a PED suspension.
WEEK 2
vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Thursday, September 15th – Amazon Prime Video – 7:20pm CT
Kansas City’s 2022 home opener will come on a short week after the first game. It will also be the first of six division games for the Chiefs, as they host the Los Angeles Chargers. Seemingly every team improved this offseason in the AFC West, from a transaction standpoint. However, no team may be more primed to dethrone the Chiefs from the top of the AFC West than these Chargers. Justin Herbert vs. Mahomes has already produced some classics. What will this Thursday night affair have in store?
WEEK 3
at Indianapolis Colts
Sunday, September 25th – CBS – 12:00pm CT
The Colts are one of the teams hoping to break through the glass ceiling in the deep cast of characters in the AFC. Indianapolis appeared destined to reach the playoffs last season. However, a horrid finish against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars ended those hopes. Now, Matt Ryan has been acquired at quarterback. Kansas City will face a tough, rugged test on the road here.
WEEK 4
at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday, October 2nd – NBC – 7:20pm CT

For the first time since Super Bowl LV, the Chiefs will face Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers here. Mahomes and Brady have met five times all-time. Brady currently holds the upper hand with a 3-2 record head-to-head against the Chiefs’ signal caller. What will the sixth meeting show us? Overall, the Kansas City offensive line looks much more sturdy than it did in the Super Bowl matchup.
WEEK 5
vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Monday, October 10th – ESPN – 7:15pm CT
Just like their first home game, the Chiefs will host a division opponent on primetime when they return home in Week Five. Despite all of the hype surrounding the Chargers and Denver Broncos, it was the Raiders who made the playoffs among Kansas City’s division rivals last year. Can Derek Carr carry a strong 2021 finish into a tremendous start in 2022? What will the early head coaching tenure of Josh McDaniels look like in Vegas? Finally, does Davante Adams force Kansas City to their breaking point in this Monday night contest?
WEEK 6
vs. Buffalo Bills
Sunday, October 16th – CBS – 3:25pm CT
The Chiefs and the Bills have put on some absolute thrillers in recent seasons. Most recently, Kansas City found a way to tie the game up with just 13 seconds left at the beginning of their final drive in regulation. The Chiefs eventually won that AFC Divisional Round game in overtime, as Mahomes found Travis Kelce in the far side of the end zone. Despite a deep AFC conference, Buffalo seems to be a heavy favorite to reach the upcoming Super Bowl from the group. Will Kansas City continue to put a thorn in the Bills’ side?
WEEK 7
at San Francisco 49ers
Sunday, October 23rd – FOX – 3:25pm CT
Similar to the Buccaneers game, this game features a recent Super Bowl matchup. Kansas City toppled San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV to capture their first Super Bowl title in half a century. The 49ers face a challenging question at quarterback. Is Jimmy Garoppolo going to remain as the starter? Or, will Trey Lance be ready to take the reigns? The play calling matchup between head coaches Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan will also be a treat to watch in this one before Kansas City’s bye week.
WEEK 8
BYE WEEK
WEEK 9
vs. Tennessee Titans
Sunday, November 6th – NBC – 7:20pm CT

In the regular season, the Tennessee Titans have given the Chiefs maddening headaches over the last few years. Though, all of those horrible losses came in Nashville. This time around, the Titans have to travel to Kansas City for the first time since losing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game a few years ago. Despite still having Derrick Henry, the window appears to be shrinking for Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee. They also shockingly traded away his top wide receiver, AJ Brown, this offseason.

WEEK 10
vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday, November 13th – CBS – 12:00pm CT
For each of the last two seasons, the Jaguars have “earned” the number one overall pick. Trevor Lawrence‘s rookie season was ruined by the clown show that was the Urban Meyer head coaching tenure in Jacksonville last season. Fast forward to 2022, and Doug Pederson is the new head coach of the Jaguars. A former Andy Reid assistant, Pederson has been renowned for his splendid work with young quarterbacks. How will that translate to Lawrence in this matchup against Mahomes and Co.?
WEEK 11
at Los Angeles Chargers
Sunday, November 20th – CBS – 3:25pm CT
The 2022 regular season series between the Chiefs and the Chargers wraps up in late November. Kansas City was able to avenge an early season loss to the Chargers in their trip to LA last season. As mentioned earlier, all matchups between Mahomes and Herbert have been dynamite so far. Let’s not forget about the ever-changing defenses of these two teams either. Kansas City is much more youthful on defense than the Chargers are. And just this offseason, Los Angeles has added stars like Khalil Mack and JC Jackson to the fold.
WEEK 12
vs. Los Angeles Rams
Sunday, November 27th – FOX – 3:25pm CT
Embed from Getty Images
Last time these two teams met, the nation witnessed one of the most insane Monday Night Football games in NFL history. A lot has changed since then for the Los Angeles Rams, however. Matthew Stafford will be entering his second season with the Rams, along with a shiny new contract extension. Jalen Ramsey has yet to face the Chiefs as a member of the Rams. Moreover, Los Angeles has a new target on their back, as they are defending Super Bowl champions. They will indeed feel the pressure of being the hunted, similar to what the Chiefs felt a couple of years ago.
WEEK 13
at Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday, December 4th – CBS – 3:25pm CT
The Chiefs and the Bengals met twice late last season. Both in the regular season and in the AFC Championship Game, Kansas City roared out to dominant starts against Cincinnati. Nonetheless, they forgot how to finish. Joe Burrow calmly led his team, per usual, and delivered comeback wins in a poised fashion. And even though they fell short in the Super Bowl, the Bengals have put other teams on notice. This Cincinnati core is full of young stars and will not be seen as flashes in the pan.
WEEK 14
at Denver Broncos
Sunday, December 11th – NBC – 7:20pm CT
The first matchup of the season between Kansas City and the Denver Broncos will come on Sunday Night Football. Of course, there is a new quarterback on the Broncos offense. It is not like their recent veteran additions that they hoped to turn the corner with, like Teddy Bridgewater or Joe Flacco. It is one of the more successful quarterbacks, Russell Wilson. The talent on the Broncos was evident the last few years, specifically on offense. Many have said that Denver was a competent quarterback away from being able to compete again. Now, Wilson will look to get the Broncos back to the postseason. Denver has actually missed the playoffs in six straight seasons, after winning Super Bowl 50 in 2015.
WEEK 15
at Houston Texans
Sunday, December 18th – CBS – 12:00pm CT
The Houston Texans are an easy punching bag right now. The hilariously bad transactions by Bill O’Brien sunk the team and cost him his job. On the other hand, Deshaun Watson‘s off-field situation altered the Texans from having a star quarterback, to needing to start over. This team is nowhere near ready to compete. Honestly, this is one of the lighter games on the Chiefs’ schedule. Yet, Kansas City should not take Davis Mills and others on the offense lightly. The Houston quarterback arguably finished his rookie season better than most other rookie passers did late last season.
WEEK 16
vs. Seattle Seahawks
Saturday, December 24th – FOX – 12:00pm CT
Christmas Eve will feature the final non-conference game on Kansas City’s regular season schedule. The Seattle Seahawks obviously do not have Wilson at quarterback anymore. Will it be Drew Lock? Will it be Geno Smith? Perhaps, there is another roster move at quarterback coming for Seattle. Either way, the Seahawks are likely going to alter the way they play without Wilson in the building. How will Pete Carroll attack teams moving forward?
WEEK 17
vs. Denver Broncos
Sunday, January 1st – CBS – 12:00pm CT
Denver and Kansas City wrap up the regular season series against each other with their second meeting in a four-week span. How will each team fare when it comes to playoff scenarios or playoff positioning? Is this game going to perhaps determine the AFC West division title as well? If so, it will be a classic game at Arrowhead Stadium between two of the league’s best quarterbacks.
WEEK 18
at Las Vegas Raiders
Time TBD
The similar situations could apply to this game, as they could to the previous game. Kansas City has yet to lose to the Raiders in Las Vegas since the Silver and Black moved there. If that happens again, Chiefs fans will likely feel rather confident entering another supposed playoff run.
