Arizona Coyotes Potential Offseason Trades

With just over two weeks before the NHL draft takes place, there will be numerous trades go down. The Arizona Coyotes potential offseason trades are the focus of this article. We have all heard repeatedly that general manager Bill Armstrong will be listening to trade scenarios to improve his club. One that we’re all aware of is the Jakob Chychrun trade rumor. Will he go, or will he stay? And, better yet if he stays how will that work out for him in the locker room? When your team has made it known that they are listening to offers to move you, it seems things would be a bit uncomfortable.

Some Arizona Coyotes Potential Offseason Trades to Consider

So, we (and the entire NHL) know that if the right package comes along that Chychrun could be on the move. But, who else could be gone? Lawson Crouse and Shayne Gostisbehere could also be dealt mainly due to their trade capital improving because of successful 2021-22 seasons. Crouse tabulated 20 goals, 14 assists in 65 games while handing out 181 hits which led the team. His size is a definite attraction that other teams are paying attention to when they look for a power forward.

He stands 6′-4″, 220 pounds and is a restricted free agent. His reasonable salary of just $1.53 million will most certainly increase. According to dobberhockey.com, he could pull in about $3.65 million AAV. And, realistically he deserves it. It seems a certainty that Armstrong would consider trading Crouse, but keep in mind that he is the perfect prototype of an Armstrong player. He can kill penalties, dig out pucks from the corners and put opponents on notice if they get too nasty to his teammates.

Ghost is a Possibility to Leave Also

When the Coyotes acquired Shayne Gostisbehere from the Philadelphia Flyers, they got him for practically nothing. The Flyers really were motivated to rid themselves of Gostisbehere’s $4.5 million cap hit and they showed it. They unloaded the defenseman along with their second-round and seventh-round picks for an ‘undisclosed’ return. So, what did Ghost do to show his former team that he is still a more than adequate player in the NHL? He put up 14 goals, 37 assists in 82 games. He toiled on the ice for 22:11 minutes per game and blocked 115 shots. Oh yes, he finished fourth in team scoring behind three forwards. Not bad… not bad at all.

For that, he could really bring back a good return, if Armstrong gets a call on trading Gostisbehere. Of course, he could also be a valuable asset to keep in Arizona as the team moves forward with its rebuild. He does have seven full seasons in the league, and could help mentor the younger guys. Just keep in mind that his $4.5 million salary is no problem for the cap-rich Coyotes. They will have in excess of $33 million to spend… depending on if they sign players like Barrett Hayton, Anton Stralman, and Christian Fischer. Even so, they will need to get to the $61 million cap basement somehow.

Coyotes Still Need a Backup Goalie

It seems that starter Karel Vejmelka will need a backup and that Ivan Prosvetov is not ready for the NHL quite yet. That means Armstrong needs to find himself a goalie. One name which could not only help the team get to the cap basement, but could help in other ways, is Matt Murray. It seems that the Ottawa Senators may be losing their patience with Murray and want to trade him. He does hold a $6.25 million cap hit through the 2023-24 season. He has had injury issues, so who knows if any team will take him. Murray also carries a modified no-trade clause in his deal, so he may not want to go to the desert. If the Sens would either retain some salary or a include a prospect, a deal could go down.

The Roster Next Season Will Look Different

Besides the fact that the Coyotes will be playing in ASU’s new multi-purpose arena starting next season, they will also be putting a drastically different team on the ice. With many of the free agents not being re-signed and all the trade rumors happening, you’ll need a program to watch it on TV. I mean, unless you’re independently wealthy and can afford a seat in the new facility. Just a wee bit pricey… right?

Per the NHL website, the Coyotes have sold out of their most expensive full-season ticket packages at ASU for the 2022–23 season.
