The New England Patriots announced the return of their red throwback uniforms for the upcoming 2022 NFL season.

In an homage to the 1980s hit movie, Back to the Future, the New England Patriots announced the return of the very popular red throwback jersey for the upcoming 2022 NFL season.

The Patriots last used the red jersey full time during the 1990 season. However, they have appeared periodically over the last 30+ years including during the 2002 season and at various points from 2009 through 2012.

Following the 2012 season, the NFL adopted the ‘One Shell Rule’ which eliminated teams ability to wear throwback uniforms. However, that rule is no more and other teams will follow the Patriots lead in bringing back their throwbacks as well.

There is no word as to which games they will be used but does it really matter? The throwback uniforms are back.
