In a division forged by intensity, the NFC North just like anyone else throws to win the game. Which wide receiver group stands out as the best?
For the entirety of this century, a Green Bay quarterback dominated this division. Regardless of if they wore four or twelve on their jerseys. Yet, each of those passers, like anyone else, needed receivers to run under the ball. Now, in 2022, the NFC North looks like a rather peculiar blend of veterans and youth looking to burst out. How will they stack up?
1. Minnesota Vikings
Despite Kirk Cousins, he of the 59-59-2 record, Minnesota employs two accomplished wide receivers. Justin Jefferson avoided a sophomore slump with a 1600-yard and ten touchdown campaign. Jefferson runs elite, crisp routes that gain natural separation. On the other side, the consistent Adam Thielen trucks along. Despite averaging fewer than eleven yards a catch, he hauled in ten touchdowns while snaring over seventy percent of his targets. Meanwhile, the unheralded K.J. Osborn. Osborn grabbed seven touchdowns from the slot. Granted, the Vikings possess talented wideouts. However, they lack a mediocre quarterback that excels at only cashing checks. No one in the NFC North does it better.
2. Green Bay Packers
Now, the Packers will still run away and hide with the division, barring injury. However, it speaks more to what Aaron Rodgers wills this offense to accomplish. Without Davante Adams, how will he manage to succeed? Well, Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson left Green Bay as well. The Packers didn’t skip a beat. The ace up the sleeve is Sammy Watkins. The well-traveled veteran is a professional route craftsman that will initially start at number one. Allen Lazard, a big body, won’t leave corners but with make the contested catch. Randall Cobb returns. The rookies should excite the Packers’ faithful. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs bring vertical acceleration and a high-volume catching pedigree. Rodgers will transform one of these two into a future Pro Bowler. For now, one will snag at least eight touchdowns.

3. Detroit Lions
That sound you hear from the Motor City is actually receiving depth. The perennial NFC North doormat finally began to assemble talent, instead of relying on one player. Amon-Ra St. Brown does nothing fancy. Yet, he caught passes at a seventy-five percent clip. St. Brown moves the chains for Jared Goff. Free-agent signing D.J. Chark brings the element of the big play into the fold. Do not count on him for precision. Additionally, Chark catches fifty-five percent of his target. Granted, the Jaguars lacked quality quarterback play, and Chark has only seven career drops. Not to mention, Alabama speedster Jameson Williams. Provided that Williams’ ACL tear heals in time, Goff really can field an intriguing wide receiver corps that will shock teams.
4. Chicago Bears
Allen Robinson leaves and the Bears replace him with Equanimeous St. Brown. St. Brown struggled to gain first downs in Green Bay. Imagine him with a second-year quarterback. However, you cannot teach height, and the 6’5″ Brown should give Justin Fields a gigantic redzone threat and player outside the numbers. Meanwhile, Darnell Mooney looks like the number one. Mooney reached the thousand-yard mark. While that stat matters, the nine drops stand out to everyone. Mooney suffers from concentration drops and needs to focus on and harness the talent that saw him claw and scratch from a fifth-round pick. Meanwhile, further down the depth chart, 25-year-old rookie Velus Jones’ speed could take the top off the defense, allowing the run game to open up.
Overview
In the NFC North, the team with the best receivers will not win the division. On the other hand, the team with the best quarterback could rely on a couple of rookies to secure homefield. In Detroit, they are building something competent. On the other hand, the Bears need everything to break right to just compete in the division.
