Buccaneers Make It Official With Julio Jones

Former Falcons and Titans wide receiver Julio Jones officially became a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday when his one-year, $6 million contract was finalized.

Originally a first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2011 NFL Draft, Jones spent the first 10 years of his career in Atlanta before a one-year stint with the Titans a year ago. During his lone season in Tennessee, Jones played just 10 games and caught a career-worst 31 passes for 434 yards and one touchdown.

“I’m looking forward. I’m not looking backwards,” Jones said upon joining the Buccaneers. “A great opportunity for me to be a part of something special in the Buccaneer family. Just looking forward to getting to work.”

Jones will now have an opportunity to lineup alongside Mike Evans and Chris Godwin as well as catch passes from quarterback, Tom Brady.

In addition to playing in just 10 games last season, Jones missed eight games in his final season with the Falcons. However, during his introductory press conference, the 32-year-old insisted he was completely healthy and there were no “lingering issues”.

That could be good news for the Buccaneers as they have seen a bit of a makeover on offense from the start of last season. Gone are wide receivers Antonio Brown and tight end Rob Gronkowski, two players who caught all three of Brady’s touchdown passes in Super Bowl LV.

A seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Jones isn’t expected to produce what he did at his peak. However, the last time Jones played a full 16-game season in 2018, he led the league in receiving yards with 1,677 and had 113 receptions and eight touchdowns.
