Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson Suspended Six Games

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, the subject of over two dozen civil lawsuits, has been officially suspended for six games to start the 2022 season as ruled by Judge Sue L. Robinson and reported by Adam Schefter.

Watson and the NFLPA do not plan to appeal and he will be eligible to return in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The lack of a full-season suspension for Watson, who was accused by 28 massage therapists of sexual assault, will likely draw the ire of many fans around the league and rightfully so. However, for Watson and the Browns, this was by far the best-case scenario for both parties. Cleveland gave up a haul to acquire the dynamic quarterback and that was before they handed him $230 million guaranteed this summer. Now, they only have to worry about the first XXXX weeks of the season while Watson is sidelined and they have officially accomplished their upgrade at quarterback.

In the interim, the Browns will turn to former Patriots, Colts, and Dolphins quarterback, Jacoby Brissett who is 14-23 during his six-year career while completing 60.2 percent of his passes for 7,742 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. The bulk of his NFL experience came in his four seasons with the Colts, primarily in 2017 when Andrew Luck abruptly retired and Brissett was handed the reigns late in the preseason. Brissett started just two games a year ago in his lone season with the Dolphins.

Watson, on the other hand, missed the entire 2021 season. However, when he last played, he led the league with 4,823 yards while throwing 33 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. Unfortunately for Watson, the Texans were just 4-12 that season, ending a streak of back-to-back seasons with over 10 wins under Watson who was drafted in 2017.

When Watson returns, the Browns expect to get the best of both worlds… the production and wins. The Browns already picked up their first win of the Watson Era with this lenient suspension.
