The New York Mets Exposed the Phillies Worst Flaw

The Phillies led multiple times in their series finale against the Mets on Sunday as they roughed up rookie pitcher, Jose Butto. However, after a pair of home runs from Mark Canha, a lengthy delay, and an inspiring performance from Nate Fisher, the Mets ultimately ended up heading home with a 10-9 victory over their N.L. East rivals.

This was a crushing loss to the Phillies and today they got the bad news that their closer, Seranthony Dominguez, will be shut down for the next five days. David Robertson will take that role but he coughed up a home run in Sunday’s game. Bryce Harper is on a rehab assignment in Lehigh Valley and the Phillies are limping at a time when they don’t have a playoff spot locked up. Currently, they have a 50-50 chance of making the playoffs and that’s not what they hoped for when they got aggressive at the trading deadline.

The Braves Are Hanging In There

If the Atlanta Braves can stay within three games of the New York Mets, they will have hopes of once again winning the NL East. They are a lock to make the playoffs barring a massive breakdown but they want more. If you win the division then that team gets a first-round bye. The last three games of their 2022 season is a three-game series in Atlanta. It’s almost like the schedule makers knew what might happen. The Mets losing to the Yankees and the Braves beating the Pirates got them to that magic number of three games.

The Mets Have a Great Record

A great record doesn’t prove much. The Mets’ record is nice to look at but that doesn’t prove that they’re an elite team. To prove that you have to beat the best teams in the league when it matters and losing to the Yankees in the opener of the Subway Series doesn’t help. The Mets still have a lot to prove down the stretch. Can their starters continue pitching at the top of their game? Max Scherzer gave up four runs against the Yankees. Jacob deGrom will be moved back for whatever reasons and now Taijuan Walker has to prove he has postseason stuff. Nothing is settled for the Mets. Nothing at all.

The Dodgers Are Still The Team to Beat

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost Walker Buehler for the season and Clayton Kershaw is missing some starts with a sore back. Neither of these things will stop them from trying to win again. The Dodgers are the best team in the National League and possibly in baseball. The Dodgers are in the top 5 for home runs in the NL. Their team batting average is over .260 and they have the most team RBI in baseball. These stats matter. They are one of the few teams with no real weaknesses and depth is a strength in most areas.

MLB Umpires Are Under Some Scrutiny

More and more videos are emerging where MLB umpires are shown making some bad calls, especially behind the plate. Human error is one thing but it’s gotten worse for sure. NBCsports.com pointed out that Doug Eddings called a game against the White Sox where he missed 26 ball-strike calls! Just do better. It’s your profession.
