With the reigning back-to-back MVP returning to Green Bay, the team hopes to make another push for the Lombardi Trophy. But that journey all begins with the Team Preview: Green Bay Packers.
After three straight playoff appearances ending up in heartache, the Green Bay Packers look to refocus and make a run at a title in QB Aaron Rodgers‘ final years. Unfortunately for Packers fans, there has been a long delay for Rodgers’ Super Bowl return since winning it all in 2010. At least there will be no delay on this Team Preview: Green Bay Packers.
Year 4 Under LaFleur
After an impressive feat of three consecutive 13-win seasons, head coach Matt LaFleur heads into his fourth year as head coach looking for better playoff results. Green Bay completely laid an egg in its previous postseason appearance and if LaFleur is looking to take the next step he needs his teams to show up when it matters most.
Former Packers offensive line coach Adam Stenavich moves up the ladder to offensive coordinator in 2022. Stenavich has done wonders with the offensive line and earned his promotion. It will be interesting to see his plan of attack for the offense. Joe Barry is in the second season of his stint as defensive coordinator after coaching a solid unit in 2021. With some new pieces at his disposal this defense should be fast and ferocious.
Offensive Outlook
The biggest question on offense heading into the season is how will the Packers make up for the loss of Davante Adams? After an off-season trade moving Adams to Las Vegas, Green Bay will ask a plethora of guys to try and make up for that production.
That will all start in the ground game. Matt LaFleur will really dig into his scheme and use the two-headed monster of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. The dual is a top tandem in the NFL and look for them to add to their impressive 2,300-scrimmage yard total from a year ago.

Aaron Rodgers is back under center but he will need to find comfort in some new pass catchers. Allen Lazard is set to take on a heavier workload and the savvy vet Randall Cobb is a favorite of Rodgers. But after that, there are plenty of unknowns. Green Bay brought in Sammy Watkins to help the wide receiver room. Watkins fits the scheme and has a high-end skill set but injuries throughout his career have plagued him. In all likelihood, Rodgers will need to break character and lean on a pair of rookies at his disposal. Christian Watson comes in with a rare size and speed combo that any QB would love. However, he is also raw and coming from an FCS program. Meanwhile, Romeo Doubs has been the talk of camp looking like a real steel in the draft. Doubs is getting open and making wow plays everyday. He still has some drops but if the two youngsters can catch on, Green Bay will be in good hands.

The offensive line is all about health and availability which starts with both the offensive tackles, David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins, coming off severe injury. Luckily for the Packers, both are back at practice and should be ready to go early in the season. Jon Runyan and Josh Myers hold it down at left guard and center respectfully. Right guard is still up in the air and with arguably Royce Newman and rookie Zach Tom as the likeliest candidates. In true Green Bay fashion, the Packers coaches like to field their best five players. If healthy this OL is strong with solid depth.
The D has Arrived!
For over a decade, the Packers were known for their high-powered offense while the defense was always asked to do just enough. However, over the last few seasons, there have been promising and flash glimpses of a fearsome unit. In 2022, the expectations are high and the time is now for this defense to dominate. With playmakers at every level, why wouldn’t the expectations be high?
Kenny Clark leads the defensive line that is deep. With Dean Lowry coming off his best season and the addition of Jaron Reed, Clark will be able to move around the front more. Furthermore, Tedarrell Slaton should take a second-year jump while rookie nose tackle Davante Wyatt is bursting with potential.
Rashan Gary was one of the best edge rushers last season finishing in the top 3 in QB pressures. He is already dominated in camp and is taking on a leadership role in his fourth season. His partner at the other edge is the reliable Preston Smith. As a steady player that doesn’t miss many games, Smith is also strong against the run. The depth may be lacking at edge but fifth-round pick Kingsley Enagbare is climbing the depth chart and could provide some quality snaps down the road.

The Packers surprised many when linebacker Quay Walker was their first pick in the draft. While it may take Walker some time to acclimate fully to the league, his athleticism is apparent. He flies around sideline to sideline and is lucky to line up next to All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell. Both Walker and Campbell are long, fast, and can close the middle of the field.
The front seven is strong but the secondary is potentially even stronger. One would be hard-pressed to find a better unit in the league. Led by Jaire Alexander, the corners are 3 deep with second-year Eric Stokes and veteran Rasul Douglas. This group is hungry and likes to talk. They will also back it up.
Strong safety Adrian Amos is an assignment sure as anyone. Meanwhile, free safety Darnell Savage has flashed but had a down season in the new system last year. He is in a big year to prove his worth a second contract. If Savage can get back to in best, the starting defense is nasty.
Overall
This team is in the mix for a Super Bowl run. The NFC is top-heavy and Green Bay is among that top group. Getting players back from injury and staying healthy is a major factor. The clock is running out on the Hall of Fame career of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are pushing to bring another title home.
