Nashville Hot Garbage: Despite Spicy Comeback, Raiders Lose

The Las Vegas Raiders stood on the threshold of victory, only to be thwarted, once again, by poor redzone execution.

In a perfect world, games should not come down to individual snaps. Yet, for the Las Vegas Raiders, a collection of those plays spun a tapestry of failure. While the Raiders dropped to 0-3, deeper conversations need to be had about the course of this team. In the midst of a winless start, Las Vegas must find a way of finding positive footing. Basically, today was nothing to celebrate.

Red Zone Woes

For years, the Raiders failed to cash in the red zone. Today, the offense sputtered once more. In a day where Las Vegas struggled, converting just two of six attempts. Whether conservative or ineffectual playcalling should shoulder the blame, this team looks like they are complacent with kicking field goals. Instead, why not try actually finish the drive, especially when the defense looked on its heels?

Chandler In The Wind

Maxx Crosby notched the only Las Vegas sack today. Chandler Jones does not look like the player the Raiders expected. With Taylor Lewan out for the year, you’d expect the defense to pressure Ryan Tannehill. Crosby looks alone out there, as Jones lacks the burst of timing to affect the plays. At this point, what can the Raiders do to light a fire under him?

Welcome Mack

Despite a day of failed redzone attempts and futility, the Raiders found another weapon in Mack Hollins. The veteran wideout bailed the offense out with eight catches and 158 yards. More importantly, his forty-eight-yard catch on fourth-and-fifteen kept the drive alive, leading to his touchdown catch. Regardless of what happens after this, Hollins gained himself a spot in this rotation.

Outlook

Over the next two weeks, the Las Vegas Raiders face two divisional rivals. In the Broncos, they will see an offense that will test their shaky secondary. Next, they travel to Kansas City and face a Chiefs team that always provides their most stern test. In plain teams, every loss drags them further from the playoffs. Since 1979, only six teams that started 0-3 made the playoffs.
