With a national audience watching, the Las Vegas Raiders came up short again. This could end their probable hopes for a meaningful playoff run.
Only Charlie Brown on the mound suffered more pain against an opponent than the Las Vegas Raiders. In front of millions, with the league watching, the Raiders, once again, fell to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders tallied 378 yards of offense. On the other hand, the defense looked horrific in surrendering 368 yards. The AFC West looks rather top-heavy right now.
Running Smooth Early
At halftime, the Raiders held a 20-10 lead. In the first thirty minutes, the Raiders accumulated 198 yards. The offense clicked. Derek Carr connected on ten of his fourteen passes, including a touchdown pass to Davante Adams. Meanwhile, Josh Jacobs scorched the Chiefs’ defense for seventy-nine yards on fourteen carries and a score. The second half gameplan looked almost foolproof, run the ball and let the offense win between the tackles. While Josh Jacobs finished up with 154 yards. It wasn’t the gameplan that doomed the team.
Atrocious Call
In all honesty, the Raiders did benefit from a suspect roughing the passer call. Chiefs’ defensive tackle Chris Jones hits Carr, ripping the ball out before Carr hits the ground. By the sheer force of gravity, Jones lands partially on Carr. Instead of a gamechanging turnover, the Raiders received a first own and scored a field goal. Overall, the officiating of roughing the passer hurts more than it helps.

Defenses Lagging Behind
Travis Kelce entered the 2022 season with seven career touchdown catches. Tonight, he added four more scores to his collection. The Raiders could not find any answer to Kelce. Patrick Graham’s defense looked lost and utterly broken. Regardless of which defender tried to stay with the Chiefs’ tight end. At which point, will you see wholesale defensive changes going forward? Kelce finds the soft spot and exploits it to his benefit. On the other side, Davante Adams continues to prove his worth with two touchdown catches on 124 yards.
Meaning
With this loss, the Raiders’ 2022 season looks all but decided. Granted, Josh McDaniels going for the lead with four minutes to go speaks volumes to the confidence of this team. In a way, the team will look to push the envelope and make teams react to the Raiders’ level of aggressive play. The Raiders lack consistency on both sides of the ball. The defense cannot make key stops and the offense struggles with sustaining long drives.
