Kansas City Chiefs Stock Report: Week 6 2022 -

The Kansas City Chiefs dropped to 4-2 on Sunday, falling to the Buffalo Bills by a score of 24-20. There were some good moments and some bad moments for Kansas City. Mainly, much of their mistakes could be fixed with simple adjustments. It also seems like the Chiefs and the Bills are on another collision course for the AFC playoffs. Simply put, it seems like these two are in a class of their own in the AFC, as things currently stand.

Each and every week, we will be listing players or position groups that improved or hurt their respective stock. Who saw their stock rise or fall in Week 6? Let’s kick it off.

Stock Up

Travis Kelce

Tight end Travis Kelce continues to produce at an alarming pace. Usually, tight ends do not make a single dent against the Buffalo defense. One of the league’s top tight ends, Mark Andrews, barely did anything against the Bills a couple of weeks prior (two catches for 15 yards). Yet, Kelce continues to separate and make tough catches in traffic. Ol’ reliable, Kelce was able to generate 108 receiving yards on eight catches against Buffalo. The Chiefs tight end continues to be a thorn in the Bills’ side, despite the Kansas City loss.

JuJu Smith-Schuster

What a day it was for JuJu Smith-Schuster. He hauled in his first touchdown as a member of the Chiefs offense. On that play in particular, Smith-Schuster provided a tremendous effort. He worked back to Patrick Mahomes after the quarterback improvised on the play. Meanwhile, he made defenders miss, forcing missed tackles, for plenty of yards after the catch before reaching the end zone. On the other hand, Smith-Schuster led the team in receiving yards on the day, narrowly edging Kelce with 113 yards. He also caught all five of his targets and made a few catches against tight coverage.

Stock Down

Orlando Brown Jr. and Andrew Wylie

From a bad performance last week, to an even worse performance for the Chiefs’ offensive tackle duo. Orlando Brown Jr. is known for struggling against speed rushers. However, there were even some reps where his hand placement hurt him against the physicality of the Bills. Andrew Wylie finished last season strong as the starting right tackle. But, the story has been turned upside down for him in 2022. We know that there is a deficiency for him against speed and quickness as well. Von Miller always presents a challenging matchup. Though, it just looked so easy for Miller when chasing after Mahomes on Sunday. Offensive tackle remains a position of need for Kansas City moving forward.

Chiefs Run Defense

To start the season, the Chiefs seemed to have turned the corner as a run defense. That area has long been an Achilles heel for this team in the Andy Reid era. Unfortunately for Kansas City, that horrendous run defense has begun to rear its ugly head once again. Like last week, the Chiefs struggled to disengage from blocks and missed tackles in the open field. The defensive line was getting blown backwards too often, especially early on in the contest. Devin Singletary had a season-high 17 carries and 85 rushing yards against the Chiefs. That was good enough for five yards per carry. Of course, Josh Allen gained some extra yards on the ground as well.

Joshua Williams

Sure, rookie cornerback Joshua Williams was not going to have the upper hand in matchups against the Bills wide receivers. Nonetheless, there were two touchdown completions that Buffalo had when throwing vertical routes against Williams. For a guy that is known for his size and length, the Bills ate that up with relative ease. You also have to wonder about the defensive gameplan in those spots, to boot. Williams will certainly continue to learn and get better. On Sunday, he just did not make enough plays to slow down the Buffalo passing attack.
