2022 FPC Chiefs Draft Prospect Watchlist: CFB Week 10

Kansas City Chiefs fans are anxiously awaiting the return of their favorite team after the bye week. On Sunday Night Football, the Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans are looking to put on a commanding show. Before the Chiefs return to action, fans can turn their attention to the college football slate. We will now present this week’s FPC Chiefs draft prospect watchlist, looking for players to watch.

It is never too early to think about possible draft prospects for next spring. With some positions being lighter on long-term contracts and potential needs, Kansas City will have eyes on certain spots. Each weekend, we will be listing some prospects to keep in mind as possible fits for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 NFL Draft. Be on the lookout for different prospect names each and every week. Here are five players for Chiefs fans to monitor in Week 10 of college football. Let’s kick it off.

DE Dylan Horton, TCU

Opponent: Texas Tech

Kickoff: Saturday, November 5 at Noon ET on FOX

Dylan Horton originally began his college football career at New Mexico. Afterwards, he transferred to TCU to join the Horned Frogs. Despite his experience at the college football level, Horton still has to clean up his pass rush counter moves. Adding more substance to his pass rush repertoire is a major hurdle for him entering the NFL level. Where does Horton currently excel? Overall, this player wins a lot of plays with his natural athleticism. The ability to run down running backs in space is not present for all defensive ends. On top of that, Horton presents a non-stop motor and efficiency in one-on-one battles at the line of scrimmage. There appears to be a fair amount of versatility in Horton’s game, to boot.

CB Jaylon Jones, Texas A&M

Opponent: Florida

Kickoff: Saturday, November 5 at Noon ET on ESPN

There has been a great deal of cornerbacks that have begun to pick up steam for this possible 2023 draft class. One of them happens to play at Texas A&M for the Aggies, Jaylon Jones. Of course, his size and strength immediately stand out at the catch point. He is an extremely physical cornerback. Though, that does not just occur at the catch point for Jones. This defender presents a workman-like mentality when competing to get off of blocks, help in run support and as a tackler. Jones has elite length, which NFL teams will highly covet for the cornerback position, as well as plenty of twitch with his play speed. Can Jones continue to react quicker against the pass and increase his ball production?

WR Jayden Reed, Michigan State

Opponent: Illinois

Kickoff: Saturday, November 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network

Michigan State is not enjoying as successful of a season, compared to last year. However, Jayden Reed continues to stand out as a wide receiver in their offense. Mainly, Reed does a tremendous job of balancing his near elite speed and smooth route running. His initial release out of the blocks can leave defensive backs on their heels. Whereas with his instincts, Reed has shown the comfortability to find the soft spots in zones, sit in them and win after the catch. His spatial awareness helps to create many explosive plays. The biggest question surrounding Reed is his catch comfort in traffic and contested catch situations. Illinois has been one of the country’s best defenses all season long. Saturday presents a major opportunity for Reed and Michigan State’s offense, as a result.

OT Tyler Steen, Alabama

Opponent: LSU

Kickoff: Saturday, November 5 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN

A transfer from Vanderbilt, Tyler Steen currently aligns as the starting left tackle for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Steen is seen as a bit of a sleeper in this 2023 offensive tackle class. Despite his size and length, Steen can often get too aggressive upfront. You would likely rather have a blocker be that, compared to being too patient. Nonetheless, keeping his balance and not overextending his arms will be a work in progress for Steen moving forward. He does do a good job of getting proper depth and cutting off angles on the edge, when making correct reads. LSU will present a challenge of speed this Saturday with their pass rush.

DL Tuli Tuipulotu, USC

Opponent: Cal

Kickoff: Saturday, November 5 at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

Tuli Tuipulotu is a unique defensive lineman. For the most part, he can handle responsibilities on the edge as a defensive end. Most of his success out there comes from his vast counter moves and instincts, by having urgent play recognition. But at the same time, Tuipulotu is very productive when condensed down inside on the defensive line. His lateral quickness, ability to shoot gaps and energetic motor is difficult to keep up with as an interior offensive lineman. As a tweener, it is important that Tuipulotu is productive against both the run and the pass. Will he be able to win off of his motor alone from any spot on the defensive line while in the NFL?
