NL Free Agency Update: Aaron Judge is Visiting San Francisco

Cue the surprised airport photo that showed Aaron Judge in San Francisco getting ready to talk to the Giants, the team he rooted for as a child. He could have slid in there late and night and nobody would have known. But they were highly publicized and that benefits Judge and his quest to be baseball’s highest-paid player. Giants general manager, Pete Putila will give him a massive offer before he leaves. He will get one shot, and the Giants must have a number in mind.

Mets and Yankees Cleared of Collusion

Steven Cohen has surely learned his lesson by telling Hal Steinbrenner he wasn’t going to talk to Aaron Judge before free agency opened up. I’m sure the MLBPA got upset thinking it might lower the Yankees’ asking price on Judge, but now that the Giants are in on him, that number will rise. It now becomes a moot point the same as talking about most things commissioner Rob Manfred does. This turned out to be a big nothing burger.

Brandon Nimmo Has Lots of Suitors

The Giants checked in on Nimmo too. Why not? If they can’t land Judge, it’s a decent consolation prize. The Rockies, Mets, and Blue Jays are all in the game. I still think the Mets and Rockies are the teams that are in the best shape to get the talented center fielder. Nimmo will have to wait his turn. Judge is clogging up the market. It really looks like it’s a two-team race for this home run machine. More will happen after he signs.

The Yankees Are Checking in on Jacob deGrom

The Yankees asked for his medicals. To be fair, they do this for every pitcher, so it’s not a big deal at this time. If they talk to him, that could change. But let’s see what happens first. In the meantime, Mets fans will twist in the wind and hope their ace returns to Flushing. deGrom trends routinely on Twitter. That’s all coming from nervous fans.

The Mets Put In a Bid On Kodai Senga

The Japanese hurler has a good fastball and a splitter. He’s never thrown 150 innings in his life. Surprisingly, neither deGrom nor Max Scherzer did that last season, so maybe that could work in Flushing. Senga could slot in as their #3 starter. This isn’t a done deal. The San Diego Padres have met with him. The Red Sox and Yankees have contacted his agent.  The Padres are believed to be the favorite to land him. Don’t be shocked if there is a “mystery” team that jumps in on him. We all love a mystery team, don’t we?
