Mets Still Hunting For Pitching

The New York Mets aren’t waiting around for Jacob deGrom to put a thumbs up or thumbs down regarding his possible return to Flushing.

While Mets GM Billy Eppler waits, he’s been very active with considering Justin Verlander or now Carlos Rodon. At 29, Rodon is the youngest of the trio. He is a late bloomer and threw 178 innings last year for the San Francisco Giants. He struck out a career-high 237 batters. If deGrom were to sign with the Tampa Bay Rays, the new mystery team, or elsewhere, Rodon would be the next best option.

Kodai Senga is the Mets’ Second Option

Senga could get signed after they reel in one of the big fish listed above. While the Padres are the logical choice for him, the Japanese hurler could slot in as their #3. His cost is nowhere near the others. Their offer is in for him, and he could be the Chris Bassitt replacement. The Yankees have checked in recently as well so the market for him is robust.

Brandon Nimmo Has a Lot of Window Shoppers

The former New York Mets centerfielder is likely headed elsewhere, but his agent, Scott Boras has made sure there is a wide array of teams who are interested. For weeks it was just the Colorado Rockies, Nimmo’s favorite team growing up, the Mets, and maybe the Yankees if they lost out on Aaron Judge. Now half the American League is “interested” including the Baltimore Orioles? C’mon, man. I don’t see that as a fit at all.

Fallback Third Baseman for the Mets

The Mets once lost Justin Turner, and now they have a chance to bring him back. If they give the 38-year-old a two-year deal, they could move Eduardo Escobar to DH where the Mets are going for a bevy of players instead of one solid player with a few fill-ins. Turner can still play the position, better than Escobar for sure who had 12 errors and a noticeable loss of range throughout the season. 

Trea Turner To Philadelphia Still Alive

More outlets are now saying Trea Turner could be in Philadelphia Phillies pinstripes before you know it. The Phillies are looking for an infield upgrade and a leadoff hitter so Kyle Schwarber could drop in the lineup. Turner could help transform the Phillies lineup and make the NL East a tough three-team race again next season. 

The MLB Winter Meetings will start Wednesday, December 7th. That’s where we will see a few more players come off the board after they interview on the MLB Network.
